How would you feel if the first lady of the United States wrote you a letter of recommendation for college? Well, former First Lady Michelle Obama did just that for Black-ish star,Yara Shahidi. In an interview with W Magazine, Shahidi revealed that the First Lady was one of her supporters. The 17-year-old said, 'She is very amazing and such a supporter which is something very surreal to say.'

On October 11, 2016, Michelle Obama and Yara Shahidi both attended Glamour's  International Day of the Girl, an event to empower young girls around the globe. The two lead a much-needed discussion on topics like school, work, and self-confidence.
 
Back in April of 2016, Yara Shahidi and her family attended the White House Science Fair. On Facebook, the actress said, " My lil bro is dabbing at the White House because he is excited!!! I'm headed back to the White House for the 6th & Final Science Fair of the Obama Administration tomorrow!"

Yesterday,  The actress spoke on a panel about the representation of diversity in the film industry. During an SXSW interview, Shahidi said,"There's so many of us out there as actors, that feel underrepresented even as actors (people that are on screen)."

 

Ms. Shahidi told People Magazine that she plans to apply to colleges on the east and west coast. Michelle Obama graduated from both Princeton and Harvard Law School. It will be interesting to see what school Yara Shahidi chooses!
