My Curlformers Natural Hair Install, Results, and Tips

1BlessedNatural: My Curlformers Natural Hair Install, Results, and Tips

Hey, my blessed naturals!
I hope you all are enjoying your Saturday like I am! I've been wanting to try Curlformers by Hairflair for a long time, but I did not want to spend $70.00. This week, I finally broke down and bought them lol. Sally's Beauty Supply had a deal where you get a bottle of the One and Only Curl Cream for FREE. The cream was a $99.9 value. Here is my experience with the Curlformers :

1BlessedNatural: My Curlformers kit came with 40 Curlformers, 2 hooks, and instructions.

 Curlformers Package

I purchased the Styling Kit for Spiral Curls for hair up to 22" or 55cm package. I wanted the 14" package, but they were sold out. The kit came with 40 Curlformers, 2 hooks, and 1 double-sided page of instructions. There were also some quick styling instructions with pictures on the inside cover of the package.

The Curlformers are like a smooth stretchy, plastic-like, woven fabric. The holes allow your hair to dry. The curlers are relatively lightweight.

Products I Used Before Installing My Curlformers

Because my no-heat rollerset was successful, I figured I'd use the same technique and similar products on my hair before installing the Curlformers. I washed and detangled my hair. Afterwards, I applied the Aunt Jackie's "Knot On My Watch" Instant Detangling Therapy to the length of my wet hair. Be sure your hair is wet, not damp. This will help your hair set well with little to no frizz. Coconut Oil was applied to my ends ends. Then, I used 1-2 pumps of Motion Wrap Lotion on each section. I used 1-1/2 inch sections of hair. Be sure not to make the section to big because it will make it harder to pull your hair through your Curlformers. They bigger the sections, the more likely they are to be frizzy at the ends.

1BlessedNatural: Here are the products I used to prep my hair for the Curlformers installation.

Installing the Curlformers

After applying my products, I used a rat tail comb to detangle and smooth the hair. I half twirled or twisted the section to straighten my roots, and then latched the hook onto it (close to the scalp) and pulled the hair through. I would suggests putting the Curlformer on the hook before prepping your next section of hair. The closer you hold the top of the Curlformer to your scalp, the closer it will be to your scalp when you pull your hair through it. Although, the whole process took me 1 1/2 to 2 hours to complete, I still had fun putting them in my hair (smile).

I made the sections of hair smaller in the back than the front because I thought I was going to run out of Curlformers. As a result, I plan to buy a Starter Pack to have extra ones. This way, I will be able to make all of my curls smaller.

Drying and Sleeping Time

I had a hard time sleeping with the Curlformers in the beginning. They can be very uncomfortable. Although the Curlformers themselves are not very heavy, they can be bulky to sleep on. I used a headband to gather them to the back of my head. As a result, I was able to sleep a little bit better on my side. My total drying time was more than 10 hours. They may have taken a little less time to dry, but I wanted to be sure before I removed the curlers.

My Curlformer Results

I removed the Curlformers by holding the top of them close to my scalp and using the other hand to straighten and pull it out. Some of my curls came out circular, but I just pulled them and let them bounce back into a spiral curls. My roots were pretty straight. The ends of a few of the curls in the back were frizzy because I made them a bit too wide, but in all I really liked the way my curls came out. They were very soft and shiny with a non-crunchy hold. I will definitely be using Curlformers to maintain my hair! I plan to separate and fluff my hair tomorrow. God willing, I will share more pictures then.
