My First Time Doing My Own Single Braid Extensions

My First Time: Single Braid Extensions

Hey, my blessed naturals!
Last time, I told you all I was thinking about doing my own single braids. Thank you to +Cassandra A , +Lydia Lusambo , +Reverend Crowning Glory, and  +QueensBred Elle for sharing your experiences and encouragement! This past weekend, I decided to try doing my own single braids. It took me 2 days to complete.

 The Hair

I used synthetic hair:
3 packs of Urban Beauty Super Silky Jumbo Synthetic hair- I liked the shine and softness of the hair, but it kept getting tangled. So, I feel like I wasted a lot of it. My hair is normally jet black, but it looked a lighter (to me) from the sun, so I chose 1B color which is off back. You can see in the last article that my hair was still darker than the color of the braiding hair. I paid $.99 per pack.
3. 5 packs of Janet 100% Kanekalon hair, Jumbo Braid- I loved the Janet Kanekalon hair because it did not tangle as much for me. It wasn't quite as shiny as the Urban Beauty hair, but it was easier to grip and braid with it. I ended up getting the 1 Color instead of 1B. I paid $2.00 per pack.
Note: My extensions are mid-back length.

Parting and Braiding

I began by doing two rows of braids in my bang area, sides, and across the back. This method enables you to put your hair hair in a ponytail and cover your natural hair in case you run out of time. I used a rat tail comb when I first began, but then I started finger parting. It was a bit awkward trying to hold my hands to attach the hair. Some of my roots are puffy in the middle, but I went back and fixed a few of them. I'm not too worried about it, because I plan to keep my braids in a ponytail. Once, I finally got the hang of braiding, I started moving at a nice pace. The only thing is that my hair is very thick. Every time I thought I was done...NOPE! LOL. While I was braiding, I was determined to keep my edges, lol. As a result, I tried to stay away from them and not braid too tight.

In All...
Thank God, I took a leap of faith and completed my single braids. With much practice, patience, and prayer, I will get better. I look forward to doing other braided styles. My sister, C. became really good at doing single braid extensions. I'm really excited about not having to style my hair for the next 3-4 weeks. I will spritz my hair for moisture. I also plan to wash and deep condition my hair, but I will see how it goes. I will keep you all posted!

What style would you like to try doing next?
