Natural Hair Shrinkage and Surprise

Single braid bun Happy Monday, my blessed naturals! Since my hair has been braided, I've gotten a lot of questions and comments about it. The one question that surprised me the most was whether the extensions were my hair. Every time someone asked me that question, I said (to myself) that I thought it was obvious I had extensions in my hair. It wasn't until my niece asked me the same question that I remembered natural hair and shrinkage. Before the braids, I'd worn my hair in an Afro and puff styles, and the truth is the extensions could've been my own hair. Last year, my niece's waist-length hair was braided into single braids. Five of the braids in the back of her hair were created using extensions because her own hair was shorter in that area than the rest of her strands. All of her braids looked like extensions. Plus, you could very well be hiding 75% of your hair's length and no one would know it, lol. That is one of the elements of surpri...

Single Braids Maintenance and New Card Items

Hey, my blessed naturals! It's been 1 week since I did my single braids for the first time . I've been enjoying the fact that I don't have to do my hair. Yay for protective styling lol! I keep my hair in a twisted bun style, and I use the African Royale Sheen Spray on my hair and scalp. I also use the Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Oil on my scalp to combat the itching. I spray my hair every morning, but I've only used the oil once. I plan to cleanse my scalp next week. Yesterday, I took my hair down spritzed, oiled, and put it back up into a bun. Since my hair is in a protective style, I've had more time to work on adding more cards to the Ruthie's Greetings Etsy shop. Today, I added "The Blessed Birthday Girl" card and gift tags (shown below). The young lady on the front is rocking a bun just like me, lol. Some of you may remember that I had the gift tags in my shop before. I thought it would be cute to add a card to make it a bir...

Single Braids: Double Twisted Bun and My New Greeting Cards

Single Braids: Double Twisted Bun style. Happy Wednesday, my blessed naturals! I hope you all are having a great week. Today, I wanted to share a picture of my double twisted bun style that I did with my single braid extensions. It didn't come out quite as good as I wanted because I cut the braids previously, but I still like the style. I plan to rock the bun for the hot weather. It's great because I don't have to worry about my hair being on my neck. God willing, I will do the same style (neater)when I braid my hair again. Earrings by Taramanda. I purchased these for $3.99 from Beauty Is Me Beauty Supply . Also, I have added more (handmade) natural hair greeting cards to the Ruthie's Greetings Etsy shop. The latest cards are called the "Fraternal Twin Afro Style" 2-pack of cards shown below. Each card features 1 stylish twin, African-American figure with an Afro. They are apart of the " Afro Style " series of cards that I i...

My First Time Doing My Own Single Braid Extensions

My First Time: Single Braid Extensions Hey, my blessed naturals! Last time, I told you all I was thinking about doing my own single braids. Thank you to  +Cassandra A , +Lydia Lusambo , +Reverend Crowning Glory , and  +QueensBred Elle for sharing your experiences and encouragement! This past weekend, I decided to try doing my own single braids. It took me 2 days to complete. back: single braids   The Hair I used synthetic hair: 3 packs of Urban Beauty Super Silky Jumbo Synthetic hair- I liked the shine and softness of the hair, but it kept getting tangled. So, I feel like I wasted a lot of it. My hair is normally jet black, but it looked a lighter (to me) from the sun, so I chose 1B color which is off back. You can see in the last article that my hair was still darker than the color of the braiding hair. I paid $.99 per pack. 3. 5 packs of Janet 100% Kanekalon hair, Jumbo Braid- I loved the Janet Kanekalon hair because it did not tang...
