Earlier this year, Alicia Keys launched her "no makeup" movement by appearing in public fresh-faced. In a letter to Lenny dated May 31, 2016, the singer explained that she didn't want to cover up anymore.
Alicia Keys was criticized on social media for her decision to not wear makeup to the VMAs. Some people thought makeup was fitting for the event, while others supported her decision. Her husband, producer Swizz Beatz took up for his wife on social media. In an Instagram video, he said, "This is deep. Somebody is sitting home mad because somebody didn't wear makeup on their face." I think he has a good point.
My nephew straight up told me last night Alicia Keys was ugly w/o makeup and I told him he was a part of the problem— ❄️ Kim ❄️ (@Bowtothe__Queen) June 6, 2016
The fact that Alicia Keys didn't have any make up on at the VMAs and was looking amazing is great !!!— M (@MaiaRainee) September 6, 2016
Why is everyone going mad on Alicia Keys for not wearing makeup at the VMAs? Are you lot actually serious?!!!— Humz✨ (@humzxox) September 5, 2016

Since Alicia Keys started her campaign, she's gained support from her fans. Celebrities like Ciara, Leslie Jones, Keke Palmer, Amber Riley, Alessia Cara, and Sanaa Lathan (just to name a few) have all rocked fresh faces in public or on social media. Sanaa Lathan also decided to rock her natural hair for the summer.
I think Alicia Keys inspiring Tamron Hall and others to go makeup-less is the start of a really great thing that we're going to see more of in the future.
Go ahead, A. Keys!
What did you think of Tamron Hall removing her makeup on the show?
