There are so many images of beauty that are pushed in front of our faces as women, and these images can greatly affect our daughters, nieces, sisters etc. However, there are ways to teach them how to love and appreciate themselves, especially their natural hair. They include the following:

1. Do their hair in cute natural hairstyles. Every time my nieces finish getting their hair done, they love their styles. Sometimes they hate getting their hair done, but they hold their head high and smile in the mirror when it's done.

2. Compliment them. Tell them often that her hair is beautiful, and take pictures of it.

3. Teach them how to take care of her natural hair. Your daughter can start doing her own hair when she reaches 8 or 9 years old. Show her how to section and detangle it. She can also do simple styles like ponytails and buns. This will help her get into the routine of caring for her hair early, so it will become second nature.

4. Keep your hair natural. It is good to lead by example. If they see that you love your natural hair, they will love theirs also.

5. Show them positive images of natural hair. Kids need to see positive images of natural hair. This can include other naturals, commercials, toys (dolls with kinky/curly hair), coloring books, celebrities, etc.
