Amanda Seales is out here doing the work that Iyanla Vanzant talked about. In an Instagram video, she perfectly described the reason why it can be extremely hard to heal from adult triggers or flashbacks linked to your childhood.

Seales said that a friend of hers who is in therapy asked why the healing process took so long. She said, "I think the reason why this be taking so long is because when you're trying to communicate with your inner child, it takes a minute for them to actually elucidate the point."

The 38-year-old gave the example of a 7-year-old child who is trying to tell you a story but they are stuttering and stopping through the process. Seales said this:

It be taking forever. You know they got a point. You know they're going to tell you this and you're going to be like, "Oh!" But, it takes a journey. And I think that's what happens when you're trying to get to the crux of your triggers. You're trying to talk to your inner child but you're having to do so with that inner person that didn't have the language yet. And so, it takes time to get the story out."
So true!

Amanda Seales is the creator and host of the touring game show "Smart, Funny & Black." She is also the author of the book Small Doses: Potent Truths for Everyday Use. Seales has her own stand-up show on HBO called I Be Knowin. She also plays in Issa Rae's show Insecure and is a former co-host of The Real TV show.
