Kobe and Gigi Bryant's Memorial Date Set for 2-24-2020 at Staples Center |
The date is symbolic for several reasons. The number "2" is the number of Gigi's jersey for Kobe's girl basketball team he coached called Team Mamba. Twenty-four is the number on the back of Kobe's Los Angeles Lakers jersey. Vanessa Bryant also said the year is symbolic. She said, "...#20 years as a Laker and the amount of years Kobe and I were together" in an Instagram post.
Today marks 2 weeks since Kobe, Gigi, and 7 other people passed away in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. The other passengers included John, Keri, and Alyssa Altobelli, Sarah and Payton Chester, Christina Mauser, and Ara Zobayan. The crash occured on January 26, 2020.

ESPN reported that artist Mike Swift and his team created a mural of Kobe and Gigi Bryant at the Taguig Tenement in the Philippines. Public transportation corporations like NJ Transit honored the 41-year-old by placing his name on the digital signs of buses. Director Spike Lee also wore a Kobe Bryant inspired suit to the Oscar's! Bryant's legacy will continue to live on.
Our hearts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and all those who mourn Kobe, Gigi, and the other 7 passengers who were on board. RIP ❤️
