We live in a world that promotes sex. It is on almost every TV show, commercial, song, and billboard This can make it more of a challenge for you and your guy when you have made plans to practice abstinence. Recently, singer Ciara and her boyfriend, Seattle Sehawks player Russell Wilson have been in the news for their decision to wait. Here are 4 tips to help you achieve your goal of practicing abstinence until marriage:

1. Talk about it. : It is important that you and your guy have a talk about staying abstinent until you walk down the aisle. You might have to have more than one talk, and that is okay. Ladies, explain to him why it is important to you. If you plan on waiting until marriage, be sure to explain this fully so that he understands where you are coming from. Also, do not be afraid to quote the Bible either. Here are some verses you can read together:
  • Hebrews 13:4 says, Let marriage be held in honor by all, and the bed undefiled: but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
  •  1 Corinthians 7:2 says, Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
  •  1 Corinthians 6:18 says, Flee fornication. Every sin that a man does is without the body; but he that commits fornication sins against his own body.
Be sure to explain the benefit of building a stronger relationship so that your bond is not based on the physical. This way, you both will be on one accord.

2. Stay off the couch! : I know you're thinking, "What?" Try not to put yourself in situations that you know could lead to you giving into the temptation of breaking your period of abstinence. For example, you might want to consider avoiding long periods of kissing because this can lead to something more.

3. Find activities outside of the house. Go out! Go to church, the movies, mall, miniature golfing LOL, amusement parks, etc. Most of those places provide you with great opportunities to really get to know each other, and you will learn to really enjoy each others company. It can help strengthen your relationship without a physical connection.

4. PRAY. : Practicing abstinence is not an easy thing, but it is not impossible.  Pray with and for your guy, and he should also do the same for you. Matthew 19:26 reminds us by saying, "But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this impossible, but with God all things are possible." Plus, Philippians 4:13 says, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me".

Lastly, remember that waiting until marriage will not always be easy, but you can do it.

Are you or someone you know practicing abstinence until marriage?

Aborigines and Melanesians: Naturally Blonde Hair and Dark Skin

Melanesia: Solomon Island girls (photo courtesy of the -cropped-Flickr- Australian Civil-Military Centre http://www.acmc.gov.au/ ) Naturally blonde hair is often associated with white or Caucasian people. However, there are groups of dark skin people who have naturally blonde hair also. Some of these groups include the Aboriginal Australians (Aborigines) and the Melanesians. I love this fact because it goes against the idea that one group or culture must look a certain way or stay in a certain category.  The Aborigines have dark skin. Some of them also have blonde hair which tends to be straight, but can be curly. Scientists first believed they were descendants of Eurasians. In 2011, scientists found evidence against the theory from a sample of natural hair. The sample of hair, which was said to be more than 100 years old, helped scientists determine that Aborigines were descendants of Africans. The New York Times confirmed this finding: "The Abo...

She received a round of applause, and Sharon Osbourne commented that her Teenie Weenie Afro (TWA) was gorgeous. Underwood explained to her fellow co-hosts and audience that she'd done something wrong 2 years ago when she spoke against the actions of Heidi Klum for keeping her sons' Afro hair in a bag as a keepsake. She said the hair was "nasty." Underwood received backlash for her words, especially from the Black community. They were viewed as examples of self-hatred among other things. On Monday's episode of The Talk Sheryl Underwood apologized a second time for her 2013 statement by saying this: I made some statements that were not only wrong, they hurt our community. When I say, "our community," I mean Black ...

Priscilla Shirer Shares Her Natural Hair Story and Tips on IG Live!

Actress and minister of Going Beyond Ministries Priscilla Shirer shared her natural hair story and secrets on IG Live today. After receiving numerous questions about her long thick natural hair, she decided it was time to do a video. Shirer said, "I've decided that sometimes, to a woman, hair = ministry." Shirer started getting a perm at about 13 years old. During previous years, her mother would use the hot comb to straighten her hair. When Shirer was 24 years old, she noticed a circular patch of hair that had broken off on the side of her head. After she visited a doctor and they plucked a few strands from different parts of her hair, the doctor concluded that Shirer's hair was growing in healthy. However, it was something that she was doing to her hair that was making it break off. As a result, her doctor told her to stop relaxing her hair for 6 months. While driving home, Shirer had a breakthrough. She originally had no intention of following the doctor...
