1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Introduces Robbi!

 1. What made you decide to go natural?
I made the decision to go natural in college because I was tired of going to the salon and sitting for 4-6 hours to get a perm. And it didn't help that each time, the stylist would burn my scalp because they wanted to get my thick hair as straight as possible! Plus, I was too cheap to pay for perms every 6 weeks.

 2. What were your friends and loved ones' reactions to your decision?

My friends didn't really know because I kept my hair in weaves for the first year or so. My mom was okay with it and my dad absolutely hated (still hates) it. I think he's used to the traditional standard of Caucasian beauty with girls having super straight hair. He doesn't think natural hair is professional. But for anyone out there thinking that, please know it's wrong. I purposely went to all three of my job interviews with my hair in its natural state (curly and unstraightened) and I got the job!
3. What is your current hair regimen?

I hear this is a big no-no but I don't have a hair regimen. I change my hair so often that it needs different things at different times of the year. Usually in the summer and winter I'll keep it in a protective style so I constantly need to moisturize. In the spring and fall I usually wear my hair out since it's not super cold or super humid and need to keep a proper protein-moisture balance. But I don't use many products. I usually just experiment with different oils - jojoba, peppermint, JBCO, olive and coconut.

What is your favorite hair style?

4. My favorite hair style is either a 2nd day twistout or a bun when I'm feeling lazy.

5.What are your 3 favorite hair products?
My 3 favorite products are peppermint oil, JBCO and Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner

6. What is the most important thing that you have learned about going natural?
The most important thing I've learned is no one's hair is like yours. So you can talk to people and read blogs all you want to get an idea of maybe what you want to buy, but nothing beats going out and trying it.

7 What advice do you have for someone who is thinking about going natural?
If you're thinking about going natural, just do it. Hair grows back. Natural is your hairs original state anyway! Your hair can still be straight or super curly. It's up to you. And take heed to my answer above!
