1BlessedNatural Feature: Donna Murry

1BlessedNatural Feature: Donna Murray Donna Murray is a lovely natural who lives in Mississippi and works as a technician. Ms. Murry decided to go natural because relaxers only made her psoriasis worse.  After transitioning for 1 year, she cut off her permed hair and hasn't looked back! One of the first things I noticed about Donna's hair was the top of it was a honey blonde color. The 37-year-old said she hasn't had any problems with breakage or damage due to coloring, because she keeps her hair moisturized with leave-in conditioner. "That's the only difference is you've got to keep it moisturized, but you have to do that anyway [with natural hair]." When I asked Donna Murry what her family and friends thought about her decision to go natural, she said her mother didn't like it in the beginning. "She was like why did I mess up my hair, and my friend guy wanted me to keep perming it", she said. Ms. Murry loves shea butte...

1BlessedNatural Feature: Alexus White

1BlessedNatural Feature: Alexus White  My name is Alexus White. I'm a senior from Flora, MS studying Healthcare Administration at Jackson State University. I have been natural for 1 year and 11 months. My two year natural anniversary is coming up soon! :) It has definitely been a journey. I've worn wigs, gotten braids, and have had plenty of sew-ins. Nothing compares to the joy of having a head full of natural hair though. I still consider myself a product junkie because I haven't found my hair staples yet. I'll just continue to play around in different things.  Something else I enjoy about natural hair is watching YouTube videos on styling! Whether it's something small or something kind of hard to do, it's always a joy to see how others are managing their hair. All in all, I love my kinks and pray that I can continue to have prosperous growth and even more fun with my hair! Happy to be Nappy!    1. What made you decide to go natural? ...

1BlessedNatural Feature: Anisha

1BlessedNatural Feature: Anisha Hey, my name is Anisha. I am a UK born and raised lady with Ugandan heritage. I am a wife, mother of 3 and psychology graduate who has a passion for God, Deaf studies and Sign Language, as well as Veganism. 1. What made you decide to go natural? Initially, I was just fed up of going to the hairdressers, and waiting for ages just to get my scalp burnt. I literally ended up with burns after every relaxer. I just felt that it was time consuming and didn’t feel as though it was worth it. With 2 children at the time, I just didn’t feel like relaxed hair was for me, especially as my daughter had turned just 3 and was beginning to notice the difference in our hair. I felt as though it was important for me to embrace my hair, as it would impact her in the future. A year before going natural, I had stumbled upon LHCF where I saw so many beautiful ladies (both relaxed and natural), I incorporated many healthy practices in my hair regimen and my h...

1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Dominique's Puff with Scarf Style

1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Dominique's Puff with Scarf Style Happy Sunday, my blessed naturals! Many of your may remember my friend Dominique who has been #teamnatural for about 5 years now. When we caught up with each other, she was rocking a cute little puff style that was tied with a scarf. In the back, the scarf was in a bow and the tails hung loose. Since Dominique did not feel like twisting her hair the night before, she worked with the curl definition already present. She used a brush and water to smooth her hair before using the scarf to create a puff . Natural hair puffs are great solutions if you need a cute and quick hairstyle. I thought the scarf gave Dominique's style a very nice touch. 1BlessedNatural: the front of Dominique's puff 1BlessedNatural: The side and back of Dominique's puff with scarf natural hairstyle If you or someone you know would like their natural and/or protective style to be featured in the n...

1BlessedNatural Feature: Alvalon Whitaker

1. What made you decide to go natural?    I’d been contemplating it for a few months. I noticed how thin my hair was becoming every time my beautician relaxed my hair. I transitioned for eight months, and then I did what they call a big chop. I just did it at home myself. I had grown tired of paying big money for hair care while my hair was becoming less and less…   2. What were your friends and loved ones' reactions to your decision? My family loves my hair, no more concerns about thinning hair. My friends had to get use to the change. Now, some of them are going natural and I love sharing what I’ve learned thus far. 3. What is your current hair regimen? I shampoo once a month, co-wash 2 -3 times a week, sometimes more often if I have product build-up. I use a leave-in conditioner, seal with oil. I use Hot Grow once a week by Dr Miracles. I’ll wear a 2 strand twist for 2-3 days, moisturizing as needed. The rest of the week I’ll wear twist out styl...
