Natural Product Review: ECO Styler Olive Oil Gel

I 've decided to do a product review of the Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel after my big chop. Price: About 5 Bucks for a large Container Ingredients: Water [good thing], Carbomer, Hydolyzed Wheat Protein, PVP, Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Sodium Tetrasodium EDTA, Olive oil, Gragrance, Blue #1 Yellow #11 LOVE AND PRIDE [awww lol] Front says "Alcohol free" (definately a good thing) Hold Degree: 10 (Maximum Hold) The Regimen Ok, so it's safe to say that I am not a big fan of gel. However, the Eco Styler gel was pretty good. I used it after co-washing with a Vo-5 conditioner, applying Hawiian Silky 14-in-1 Miracle Worker, and moisturizing with Shea Butter mixed with Olive Oil. I applied the ECO Styler gel while my hair was still wet The Results When I was applying the product, it did turn white. But, my hair was not flaky or white when it dried. I slept on a satin pillow case. When I woke up, my curls were more defined and   in place. But, they were a bit ...

Natural Hair and Scissor Happy

Today I am having an "ok" hair day lol. I washed and deep conditioned it yesterday. I also applied my Shea Butter mixed with Olive Oil. Some areas of my hair are sticking straight up lol. I fight against the urge to keep cutting them off. Ever since I did my big chop, I get the urge to cut my hair lol a.k.a scissor happy.

Natural Hair Product Review: Gold 'N Hot Conditioning Heat Cap

Gold 'N Hot  Conditioning Heat Cap Hi Everyone, This review is for Charish and anyone else who wants the scoop on the Gold 'N Hot Conditioning Heat Caps. Price: I paid $28.00 and some change. I have seen them listed online for as high as $33.00 Where: Beauty Supply Store- It was the least inexpensive one that I saw on the shelf. Deep Conditioning I applied a conditioner to my hair and then put on a plastic conditioning cap. I put the Gold 'N Hot Conditioning Heat Cap on my head and secured the strings under my chin. The cap resembles a hooded dryer. The cap comes with a small remote with the three settings (Low, Med, High) above. I usually place my setting at "high", and end up falling asleep because it's so relaxing lol. You can sit under your heating cap for 15-30 minutes. Performance: I have not tried many heating caps. But, the Gold 'N Hot Conditioning Heat Cap does the job. After I take the plastic cap off of my hair, ...

Steam Therapy for Natural Hair

Hey Everyone,       It has been 3 weeks since my big chop. It doesn't even feel like it was that long ago. I'm learning more about my hair almost every day. I have found another good hair treatment. This includes steam therapy. It's good for your hair and scalp. Try taking a hot bath and letting the steam travel all through your hair. Apply a moisturizer to your hair and go. LiveStrong also says that you can apply a hot towel over your plastic cap. When I deep condition my hair, I usually sit under the Gold N Hot conditioning cap. It's funny because when I used to perm my hair, I ran away from steam and moisture. Now, I'm running back to it lol. Steam therapy for your hair.... Try it!                                          ...

My TWA Headband Experiment

Hey Everyone, My friends and I had been joking about headbands and TWAs (Teenie Weenie Afros). I wanted to see how my hair would look with one. The front of the band is satin. You can purchase them at any beauty supply, dollar store, or grocery store. The back of the headband consists of a cloth covered elastic band. But I still applied Shea Butter around the perimeter of my hair (where the headband rests)to prevent breakage. You can also apply a moisturizer to the cloth-covered elastic band (ex. soak it in oil). I prefer to have more hair to wear the headbands. But, I was actually pleased with the results. I'm embracing my TWA lol :-).  God is good :-) Until Next Time... ~1BlessedNatural~

Looking Feminine After The Big Chop

After I did my big chop, one of my concerns was to still look feminine with short natural hair. I've found that makeup and accessories do the trick. I already liked to accessorize. So, the earrings and chains weren't a problem. I also like to wear neck scarves. However, I am not a big fan of makeup. The good thing is that I don't mind eye makeup. Eye shadow is my best friend lol. It's really fun to be able to switch up the styles. When you wear your short hair, you also wear your confidence in God. He created you. No matter how you wear your hair, wear it with a smile because He loves you. That will show through and add to your femininity. Go ahead and try it :-) 1BlessedNatural

Natural Hair Product Review: Palmer's Organi-Gro Deep Conditioner

I am so excited to share my new hair discovery for natural hair moisture lol When I was transitioning, I ran out and bought several products lol. I think I went overboard lol. Anyway, the "Palmer's Organi-Gro Deep Conditioner"  with the Olive Oil Formula (TM) was one of those products. The second ingredient after water was "Stearyl Alcohol". So, I was a bit cautious when I used this product. After shampooing my hair, I applied the "Palmer's Organi-Gro Deep Conditioner" to my hair. My hair started to feel dry afterwards. So, I took the advice of Curly and Young , and I  added some Hollywood Beauty Olive Oil. After sitting under the heating cap  for 15 minutes, I washed my the conditioner out and applied a leave-in-conditioner (with more Hollywood Beauty Olive Oil) Then I applied unrefined Shea Butter with a little bit of the.... You guessed it! LOL ... Olive Oil (while my hair was wet). I slept on a satin pillow case...

Natural Hair Product Review: Nature's Blessings Hair Pomade

Review updated: 9/10/2013 I bought the "Nature's Blessings" hair pomade a while ago. I was happy because the ingredients were actually easy to read lol. They were listed on the back as follows: "Nettle, Rosemary, Sage, Peppermint, Thyme, Alfalfa, Pure Virgin Olive Oil, Pure Coconut Oil, Sage Oil, Rosemary Oil, Bergamot Oil, Chlorophyll (from nettle and spinach), Pure Mineral Jelly, Natural Fragrance and Good Intention" <-- I thought the end was cute :-)  I noticed the  "Pure Mineral Jelly" a.k.a. Pretrolatum. But, it was low on the list of ingredients.  It is a great sealant. You can use it to seal in the moisture in your hair after applying a moisturizer and/or water.  However, the fragrance is strong for my taste. It's not an unpleasant smell; it's just too strong. The description on the jar says that it is a excellent for dry skin and chapped lips. I found it to work well as a moisturizer for my lips. You can take a sm...

Activating Your Natural Curls

It has been 1 week since my big chop! It has been a week since my big chop. I have learned a lot about my natural hair already! When I washed and conditioned it last week, I used the Hair Mayonnaise by Organic Root Stimulator. It works well, but  I would comb my hair with the conditioner in it..As a result, my hair would be poofy lol. This time, I washed my hair with the Creme of Nature Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo and combed my hair forward while the shampoo was still in my hair. After I rinsed the shampoo out, I applied a large amount of the Replenishing Conditioner by Organic Root Stimulator and rubbed it on my hair from back to front (in one direction) to prevent little tangles and sat under a heating cap for about 15 minutes. When I washed the conditioner out, my hair was very curly. Yayy! lol

1 Week After My Big Chop: My Remedy for My Dryness

IC Hair Polisher Mist Spray Bottle Hey Everyone! The two items above are my hair's new best friends lol. After I shampooed my hair. I applied unrefined Shea Butter mixed with Castor Oil, to my hair and scalp. I poured a small amount of water mixed with castor oil into my spray bottle. I shook it up, sprayed it on my hair, and gently rubbed it in. In the morning I sprayed the IC Polisher mist all over my hair. It has helped to keep my hair moisturized and shiny! Yayy for progress :-)

Co-Washing and Dryness After the Big Chop

Co-washing my hair My hair has been very dry since my big chop. The other day, I sprayed my hair with water and applied the Eco-Styler Olive Oil gel, but it ended up very flaky. I guess I should apply it right after I wash and condition my hair. First Co-Wash After My Big Chop I co-washed my hair with the VO5 Silky Experiences Conditioner. I applied Shea Butter (while my hair was wet) mixed with Castor Oil . Then I applied the Hollywood Olive Oil and Softee Coconut Oil. My hair was a little more moisturized, but is still dry. I have the Organic Root Stimulator Deep Replenishing Conditioner. I liked to use it when I was transitioning I think I will try that next time. Let me know if you have any suggestions for dryness after the big chop :-)

My Big Chop!

I f you read my last post, you could tell that I was thinking about doing my big chop. After work, I pulled out the scissors and started cutting my hair. I did not call anyone because I was afraid that they would try to talk me out of it. I was all ready with my butterfly clips to section my hair off and everything lol. I co-washed my hair with Vo5. But then, I started having second thoughts lol. I was like,"Oh my goodness, what if I don't look right?" Something inside of me said "So what!", and I started to forget about the sections. I figured if I started cutting in the front, then I couldn't turn back. So I kept going. It felt sooo good to know that I could let go of something that people often emphasize as being an important part of your being. "I am not my hair"- India. Arie I am a new natural!!! It feels great. My Big Chop is done! Here are my curls after the big chop. I had applied the Creme of Nature Leave-In-Conditioner. ...

Widows Peak After Going Natural

My "new" widows peak lol I have read about it in natural hair articles, and I've seen the YouTube videos about it. I'm talking about a widows peakMany people notice that they have widows peaks  after the stop relaxing their hair. I am on of them.  . Widows peaks exist when your hair dips down  onto your forehead lol. Where did that come from? lol It really shows the amount of damage that a relaxer can cause. It's a good thing that I have stopped. Sheesh!
