Little Girl with Ponytails

Happy Sunday everyone! This is a picture of my niece's ponytails. Her mom uses Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Moisturizer on her curls. Her hair is very soft and thick. "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful"- Psalm 1:1

Mini Twists Style Challenge: Side bang with Headband #5

I liked this style better than the two french braids . This weekend I might take my twists out and do a twist out.

Mini Twists Style Challenge: 2 French Braids with Headband #5

Happy Saturday everyone, Today I styled my mini twists into two big french braids. But, I wasn't thrilled about this style.

Mini Twist Style Challenge: French Braid with Small Bun #4

Happy Friday! Thank God that we made it through the week :-) This morning, I french braided my hair half way down my head and then put my hair into a small bun. The french braid is a bit sloppy but I did not mind :-)

Mini Twists Style Challenge: Twists to the Side with Headband #3

Hey everyone, Here is the 3rd style. Today I kept my hair pinned to the side in a half wrap, using bobby pins. I put on a headband because (you know) they make any style look better. I went crazy with those bobby pins lol, but "I had to go to work" lol (in my whoissugar voice)

Mini Twist Style Challenge: Hair Style # 2

Hey everyone, I used bobby pins to pin the right side of my hair to the side.

Mini Twist Style Challenge!

Happy Monday everyone, Because, I'm getting bored with my mini two strand twists, I want to challenge myself by coming up with different styles for them. My challenge starts today and will continue through Sunday, October 7, 2012. Please join me! If you'd like to be featured on my blog with you mini twists style, just respond to this post saying so. In my first picture, I used two bobby pins on each side to pin back the hair.

...And the Next Natural Style is....

We must never forget Trayvon Martin and those that came before him. Happy Sunday everyone, I just took out my mini twists and I'm installing more. I love waking up in the morning and not having to worry about my hair.

1BlessedNatural Experience: Heat Training My Natural Hair with Hot Comb

8th grade picture of natural hair after being hot combed January 8, 2013-  USE HEAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. AFTER EXPERIENCING HEAT DAMAGE AGAIN, I WOULD NOT SUGGEST TRYING TO "HEAT TRAIN" YOUR NATURAL HAIR.  Happy Saturday everyone! I have been wanting to do a post on heat training natural hair for a while now. I used the hot comb from age 10-17. When I was 10 years old, a perm caused all of my hair to fall out. I remember transitioning at that time. My grandmother pulled on the little bit of permed ends that still existed on my hair to show that I did not have a lot of permed hair left. After a year, most of my permed hair had broken off. When I went to the 7th grade, my grandmother (who had been straightening my hair using the hot comb) took me to a press and curl salon. They deep conditioned my hair, clipped my ends, and curled my hair (using small barrel curling irons). Shirley Temple was my name lol. My hair felt very healthy at the time. Afterwards, my grandmoth...

1BlessedNatural Spotlight: GNC at Ride Aid, Aloe Vera Juice

Today I bought some Aloe Vera Juice because I want to try, this weekend to make the Kimmaytube leave-in conditioner.  I don't know if I am late lol, but I just noticed that Rite Aid has a GNC aisle in it. I found the Aloe Vera Juice along with other products like Flaxseed Oil and Coconut Oil. I paid $9.99 for the Natural Brand Filtered Whole Leave Aloe Vera Juice. The Coconut Oil will costs anywhere between $9.99-$13.99.

1BlessedNatural Experience: God's Blessing from Senior Day on Sunday

Day 6 with mini two strand twists American culture promotes the fountain of youth like it is the answer to all things that are important. Wrinkles and grey hair are shunned and excommunicated by serums and hair color boxes. Very few people actually "see the beauty in growing old" like India. Arie said. Every day that we turn on the television, there seems to be more and more people that did not get a chance to see those wrinkles in the mirror or decide that the grey strands could stay a little while longer. This fact makes our lives precious, and those issues that we viewed as being rivers become ponds.  Yesterday during Senior Day, we received the honor of showing our appreciation to the seniors in our congregation. At the end of the service, one young woman stood up from the crowd of seniors and revealed that she was 71 years old. I was shocked because she looked like she was in her 40's. Her presence confirmed a lesson that God had been trying to teach me lately....

1BlessedNatural Natural Hair Product Review: Cantu Shea Butter Creamy Hair Lotion

Product: Cantu Shea Butter Creamy Hair Lotion for Natural Hair   Place:  Walgreens Cost: approx . $7.00 First five ingredients: Water (Aqua, EAU),Glycerin, Canola Oil, Cetearyl/Alcohol/Ceteareth-20, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter.. Claims: conditions curly, kinky and wavy hair... leaves curls full of body and shine... detangles and softens hair. I agree with 1, 2,  and the "softens" part of 3. I have not tried to use this product to detangle my hair. Consistency: light and creamy white Fragrance: pleasant, tropical fruit smell I must say that this Cantu Creamy Lotion is my favorite product along with Carol's Daughter's Hair Milk Moisturizer. I applied the Cantu Creamy Lotion to my hair after washing and deep conditioning my hair. I was a bit skeptical about Cantu hair products, but a former teacher suggested that I use their products. I'm happy that she did! Here is my results post. The Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion keeps...

1BlessedNatural News Spotlight: Girl Sent Home for Wearing Brown Tights

This post is not related to natural hair in any way, but I had to write about it. According to the Daily News , middle school honor student Deja Turnstill was allegedly sent home for wearing brown tights. Her mother claims that she has worn tights to school before. But, it was never a problem until she wore the brown ones. One of the school aids allegedly commented on the tights being brown and looking like the 11 year old was not wearing any pants. As a result, her mother felt like her daughter was being an object of discrimination. In my opinion, tights (especially the see-through ones) should not be worn by themselves in public, let alone to school.  Wearing tights is the the new trend for teens and young adults. I remember the early 90's when tights  were worn with a long sweater that covered your thighs or under shorts. .When I was a kid, my grandmother used to dress me in tights stretch pants with long shirts. Stretch pants were also worn by themselves or with a long s...

Wrapping Your Two Strand Twists At Night

I wrote a post a while ago about using bobby pins to keep your hair stretched while sleeping. Recently, I saw a video by Naptural85 where she discusses wrapping your hair. Since my hair is now long enough to wrap around my head (sort of lol). I decided to give it a try. My results are in the picture above. Check out Naptural85's YouTube Video.

1BlessedNatural Hair Spotlight: India Benet

India Benet's last name may sound familiar to you, and her talent as a singer may ring in familiarity also. She was interviewed earlier this summer by CurlyNikki .  Her father is R&B singer Eric Benet. Take a listen to this natural haired beauty... Like father, like daughter :-)

Back to Protein Conditioning & Mini Two Strand Twists

This weekend I got the chance to give my hair some tlc. I washed and deep conditioned my hair with Organic Root Stimulator's Hair Mayonnaise. I will try to do the protein treatment at least once a month. My curls seemed to spring to life when I used the Hair Mayonnaise. I stretched my hair by using the Banding Technique . I used the blow dryer (on cool setting) to dry the parts that were wet. I tugged at my hair while blow drying, causing it to stretch more. My new fall hair regimen includes the Hair Milk Lite Leave-In Moisturizer by Carol's Daughter and Cantu's Creamy Hair Lotion. I applied both products to my hair and sealed with Coconut Oil. My hair was amazingly soft and moisturized. I worked with my hair in 4 sections, and I was able to put the products on the whole section without it drying out before I was done. I twisted my hair into small twists. I has happy to see that my hair seemed fuller and neater than my last attempt .

1BlessedNatural Experience: Lessons of Faith from a Roller Coaster

If you know me, then you know that I do not ride roller coasters. I don't even like the "baby" ones lol. I am not a fan of height, so I'm not going to put myself in a place where I will be suspended in mid-air just for fun.   When my brother asked me to ride the Superman ride at Six Flags Great Adventure, you can guess the answer that I gave him. However, 10 minutes later I found myself standing in the line of over 100 people, waiting to get on the Superman ride.  I could not believe that I had let my brother talk me into riding it. There I stood in this line staring into faces of smiling folks that seemed too happy to experience their near death experience via a metal contraption. My brother said that the ride was not a big deal. But, this is coming from someone who adores roller coasters, of course. We stood there and watched several people fill the ride's seats and take off into the loops in the sky. My niece and her friends were the first to get on the ri...

Natural Hair Boredom

I'm starting to get bored with my fro and styles. Am I allowed to say that??? lol  Yes, it happens. There will be times in your natural hair journey where you will get bored with your hair , just like any other type of hair. But, that's a great time to do a protective style. I will be doing more mini two strand twists soon. I was also thinking about getting flat twists done at a salon with extensions, possibly. But I have to research a good natural hair stylist first. The last time that I went to an African hair braiding shop and the stylist did not know how to comb natural hair.

Embracing the Rain As a Natural

Happy Saturday everyone! Today I got caught in the rain, but I was not upset. When I got home, I put my (wet) hair into two ponytails and applied Cantu's Creamy Hair Lotion and Coconut Oil. My curls clumped together and I plopped right on my couch lol. The idea of not having to run away from the rain is one of the greatest benefits of natural hair, and I love it! I forgot to add... September 3, 2012 made 1 year and 6 months since my big chop!

Back to Glycerin and Water

Hey everyone,  If you read my last my post, then you know that my hair has been very dry lately. Today, I cracked open a bottle of Glycerin to help me. I did a Glycerin mix a while back . But, I tend to forget about using it. I added 1 part Glycerin to 3 parts water in a water bottle and shook it up. I sectioned my hair and sprayed a little of the Glycerin mix on the section and then applied Shea Moisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie. Lastly, I sealed in the moisture using Coconut Oil. Now, my hair is soft again. On my next wash day, I will use the Hair Mayonnaise by Organic Root Stimulator. I think my hair really needs a protein treatment. That is another thing that I forgot to do. The product junky (in me) has been looking for another leave-in conditioner and moisturizer when I may just need to do the protein treatment. Silly me :-) lol. It's all a learning process :-) Thank God for that! I do believe that using a leave-in conditioner (with the moisturizer and oil) will hel...
