Natural Hair Product Review: Organics Olive Oil Leave-In Conditioner

Organics Olive Oil Leave-In Conditioner by Africa's Best Since my big chop, I have used the Lemongrass & Rosemary Leave-In Conditioner by Creme of Nature. The store that I went to didn't have it. So, I decided to try the Organics Olive Oil Leave-In Conditioner by Africa's Best. My hair loved it, and so did :-) Store: Beauty Supply, Grocery store Price:  $3.99- $7.00 Ingredients (first 7) -Aqua (Water), Propylene Glycol, Olea Europea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cetyl, Alcohol, Glycerin... Application- I applied it to my twa in the morning before styling. It made my hair soft and moisturized. Fragrance: The fragrance is ok. It is not a floral scent. Product: A- Summary- The only reason why I gave this product an "A-" instead of an "A" is because of the fragrance. It has a very distinct smell. I would advise to maybe get a sample to smell before using.

My First Attempt At Flat Twists

Flat Twist Good morning everyone! I hope that everyone is having a good morning :-) Earlier this month, I attempted to do flat twists. It was much easier for me to twist them forward, than backward lol. But, I started to get the hang of it. I want to wear them when my hair gets a little bit longer. Don't forget to enter the "Ruthie's Greetings Natural Hair Greeting Card & Product Giveaway" ! 2 days left! Protective Styling/ First Salon Experience: Knotted Micro Braids

I've been wanting braids for a while now. Today, I had the patience to sit down and get them done. Today was the first time that I have been to a salon since I've gone natural (5 months) I am happy the results. When I first made my appointment, I said I wanted braids a little bit bigger than micro braids. But, the stylist ended up doing them any way, which was not a problem.  I used the Wet and Wavy Human Hair by Janet. My stylist braided my hair about two inches, and then put a knot at the end of the section of hair to keep it from coming a loose. One of my friends had just suggested that I should not get micro braids because of the stress that they place on the hairline. Check out the braids in the front at the top (TIGHT) lol. But, I'm not worried . I shampooed, deep conditioned and detangled my hair the night before. In the morning, I applied Organics Olive Oil Leave-In Conditioner  by Africa's BEST and Coconut Oil. I had a feeling that my stylist was...

Glycerin & Natural Hair

Glycerin I've finally got my hands on a bottle of Glycerin. I always let my finger coils air dry when I do them. I've noticed that the top of my hair (which is the thickest part) would always stay a little moist. If the humidity was high outside, my coils would be damp. I thought it was the Glycerin in the Eco Styler gel. Curly Nikki confirmed it :-) The article explains that Glycerin attains moisture from the air. That's too cool :-) I mixed Glycerin with water and applied it to my hair. I'm pleased with results.

Natural Bad Hair Day

Ok, so today was my bad hair day :-( I washed, deep conditioned, moisturized, and two strand twisted my hair on Friday. I was happy with my twist out; there was not a lot of shrinkage. But, a day later the rain came :-( I grabbed an umbrella but I decided that was one of the joys of natural hair right??!! You don't have to worry about messing up your hair???! However, I woke up this morning with my shrunken baby fro :-( I attempted to style my hair this morning, but really wasn't in the mood. I put on a stretchy headband, but ended up taking it off later on in the day. I should have actually rocked a hat or hair net (accessory) I don't think my hair looked bad, it just wasn't doing what I wanted it to do lol. Oh the joys of natural hair! Despite my bad hair day, I wouldn't trade it for the world :-) LOL  Thanks for listening ladies :-) I had to vent! lol                   ...

1BlessedNatural Hair Spotlight Introduces: Shirelle

Good Morning everyone,      Yesterday, I ran into a natural haired young lady on my way to work. She was rocking copper and honey blonde dreadlocks, and her name was Shirelle. I heard of using henna hair treatments, but I'd never really researched them. She schooled me on the method. Shirelle said that she was using regular permanent color on her hair. But, the chemicals were damaging her hair. One month ago, a friend suggested that Shirelle use henna to color her hair. Now, she couldn't be happier with the results. Shirelle explained that the henna treatment product she uses is like a paste that you can easily apply to your hair. My fellow natural advised that if you have dark hair like mine, the color may not take unless you get your color stripped (as you would with normal hair color)      After rocking her hair natural for years, Shirelle says that she decided to lock her hair 5 years ago. She encourages all the women th...

5 Months Natural Hair Update

Hey everyone, I hope that you are enjoying your week. I just wanted to give you an update on my hair :-) August 3, 2011 was my 5 month natural hair anniversary. Lately, I have been rocking finger coils. My favorite products to use on my hair are shea butter, coconut oil, Creme of Nature Lemongrass and Rosemary Leave-In Conditioner , and Eco Styler Gel with Olive Oil (for my twists/coils). My hair is about 3 inches long now. Keep in mind, I trimmed it about a month ago. This week, I dusted my hair while doing my finger coils. Here are some pics! How long have you been natural? 1BlessedNatural Hair Spotlight Introduces: Dominique Smith

Many of us naturals have people who have inspired us in our hair journey; they have given us hair-inspiration. For me, that person is my friend Dominique Smith . You can read all about her hair journey below :-) 1. How long have you been natural? I can say that I have been natural for at least 2 years   2. Why did you decide to go natural? When I was a young girl my mother cared a great deal for my hair. But after years of combing and maintaining it, it became too much to handle. My hair was very full and thick, and my sister had just as much. So, we began to depend on the hair salon. The problem was that our hair needed the care of someone who was knowledgeable in African American hair. The guessing games began in my adolescent years, and continued on throughout college. I never had a knack for doing my own hair…that was my mother and sister's forte.. The experience was stressful; it was a burden to experience hair breakage and damage without any knowledge ...
