New Year's Resolutions, Anyone?

1BlessedNatural's New Year's Resolutions (photo by J.T. Harris) Year after year, the New Year holiday rolls around and everyone reveals their resolutions. It may be weight loss, career change, or personal goal. The motivation exists and many are determined to leave bad habits and people in the past.  The ball drops and time fast forwards to March; most of us have forgotten that we have even made New Year’s resolutions. This raises the question, “Why make New Year’s resolutions in the first place?” There are some methods of remembrance we can use to achieve our New Years goals. You may have heard the cliche that you are more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down. I am a firm believer in writing down my goals or resolutions. Use a notebook, journal, sticky note, tablet, or cell phone to write your resolutions down. Every day or several times a week log your progress towards your resolutions and include the date. If you have a day ...

Natural Haired Characters in Video Game

Natural haired girls in Just Dance 2014 Happy Sunday everyone! The video game JustDance 2014 proves to be a real treat for those of us who love natural hair. The dance segment for the song "Could You Be Loved" by Bob Marley features two young girl characters with curly hair. This weekend, I played the game on the Xbox 360 console with my niece. Just Dance 2014 is also available for the Ninetendo Wii, and Playstation consoles. In the game, all the characters' skin are whited out, presumably so that you can imagine yourself as the character while you are dancing. One of the young ladies is dressed in a pink and blue tank top with yellow, black, and red tights, and red and white high top sneakers. Her hair is in a natural hair puff. The other young lady (who looks older) is wearing a yellow and black print, button up shirt with red and white, triangle print shorts. Her sneakers are blue and white, and she is rocking a huge curly fro with a red headwrap. Some of t...

I am just sharing my experiences and tips for eating healthy. Before trying anything, I would recommend that you speak to your doctor or healthcare professional. my hair with the ORS Hair Mayonnaise Happy Christmas Eve everyone! I hope you all are having a great holiday. If you are going through a hard time, I pray that the Lord will see you through and bless you and your loved ones with the knowledge of His love and comfort (smile). For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. - John 3:16 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth , give I unto you, Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. - John 14:27 In hair-related news, my hair is about 95% back to normal from protein overload . Last week, I experienced moisture overload because I abstained from hair products with protein. Remember, your hair needs a balance of protein and moisture. If you have more than the other, your hair will feel and behave differently. When I had moisture overload , my hair was very soft and moisturized , but m...

Natural Hair Puff as Low Manipulation Hairstyle

Puff with flat twists: low manipulation style choice by 1BlessedNatural Hey everyone,  I've had a real breakthrough in the last couple of days in my battle over protein overload. Tomorrow, I will be giving you all an update on some products that I have used to get my hair back in shape. Thank God!  Tonight, I wanted to talk about  my experience using natural hair, puff styles as low manipulation hairstyles.  Low manipulation hairstyles consist of any styles that will help minimize the amount of styling done to your hair. Basically, they help you keep your hands out of your hair, lol. Some naturalistas may consider styles like wash-n-go's, roller sets, twist-outs, braid outs, and buns as low manipulation styles. I have been using puff styles as my low manipulation style. At the beginning of the week, I usually braid or twist the front of my hair. I put the back in medium-sized twists. The next day, I put my hair in a puff.  I usually keep m...

Update: Battling Seborrheic Dermatitis and Protein Overload

Hi everyone, I have been making some progress in my protein overload and Seborrheic Dermatitis plight. Thank God! Thank you all for all of your suggestions on combating both conditions. I am on week 2 of a dermatologist prescribed foam. The dermatologist also prescribed a shampoo and oil, but I wanted to try some natural remedies first. I found that some items that may have been good to treat Seborrheic Dermatitis were not good to use on my hair due to the protein overload and vice versa. Last week, I applied Castor Oil to my scalp (especially on the healing areas), and it lessened the itching. Because it is a thick oil, I usually use it as pre-poo. I tried using it on my hair as a sealant, but it was too greasy. It left my hair dry underneath the coating. Some articles that I have read stated that Castor Oil has protein in it. If this is true, then it is not good for my protein overload recovery, lol. My hair is a little drier than it was previously, SMH. I will stick to my ...
