  My nephew has just entered high school, and is at the age where he is concerned about his appearance. He now uses a lot of gel products to enhance his natural curls.  He was using Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel. But one of his friends suggested that he should use mousse. So, he tried Lustrasilk's Cholesterol Syling Mousse and sat under the dryer. His results are in the picture above. But he was not happy with the results. He thought that it was not curly enough.  

Here is a picture of my 2 year old niece's two strand twists. Her mom applied Organic Root Stimulator's Olive Oil Moisturizer and used rubber bands at the base and ends of the twists. It is a relatively quick hair style.

      I am an African American who loves monkey t-shirts. "Why?" you ask? Well, simply because I think they're cute. Despite the racial past and present history of the image of monkeys being used to degrade our race, I still wear t-shirts with them from time to time. I guess that's my big "so what" statement.       This past weekend I traveled to another state, and I was wearing one of my favorite monkey t-shirts when I arrived at the airport. When I reached one of the security check points, a Caucasian security guard asked me what was the name of the  monkey on my t-shirt. At first, I was thinking to myself, "Why did he ask me that?"  He must've noticed the look on my face. So, he asked me the question again and said that he was referring to my t-shirt. I told him the name, but he didn't believe me lol. Anyway, that little interrogation really made me think about how racist people often use monkeys to refer to African-American...

  Happy Monday Everyone, This weekend, my sister decided to stick me in a time machine and cornrow my hair in a little girl's hairstyle lol. I only kept them in for a day. I would have kept them longer if my hair was washed. I will post the results of my braid out in the next post. 

This is the same style from Sunday, but I unraveled one of the flat twists.

Happy Sunday everyone! Today was a very good day for me and I thank the Lord for it :-)

   I had just left work when I decided to go see "Beasts of the Southern Wild". I saw the trailer, but I was not ready for the fantastic adventure that it would take me on. The clock read 5:08 and the movie was starting at 5:10 pm. I was excited. So, I used my two minutes to get my ticket and snacks, and headed right to my seat. Beasts of the Southern Wild" is set in a place called the BathTub that is separated from everyone else. The main character "Hushpuppy"( Quvenzhané Wallis) tells the story of how she sees the world through her imagination. The movie is reminiscent of the event of Hurricane Katrina. But , it takes you on an enchanted adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat. It is a must-see and I'm glad that I got the chance to go see it!

Last year, I had micro braids , and they took out all of my edges. They have grown back (for the most part) and I am trying to preserve them. When I band or style my hair, I try to part the front of my hair (where my edges are) and pin the hair back loosely to protect my edges. You can also twist your hair into two loose flat twists.

  Happy Saturday everyone! Today I did my puff with water and Eco Styler gel. I smoothed the hair to the center with my hands and then slid a stretchy band around it.

  Happy Wednesday! If you read my last post, then you know that I was going to keep my mini two-strand twists in for at least 5 days. I normally keep them in for 2 weeks. But, I took them out lol. I rushed to install them. I think that next time I will do them when I really have the time do them right.
