"La Capresse Des Colonies" by Charles Henri Joseph Cordier at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Happy Monday, my blessed naturals! Last weekend, I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art (a.k.a. "The Met") with my family. We were on our way out of the museum when my brother said, "Look! There's Lauryn Hill." I turned around to find this beautiful bronze bust of a Black woman with short locs. She was not Lauryn Hill, but she looked a lot like her. The tribal woman bust was called "La Capresse Des Colonies" and was sculpted by artist Charles-Henri- Joseph Cordier (1927-1905).  The details of the woman's features were very elaborate and life-like. The woman wore a facial expression of being tired but still smiling through it. 1BlessedNatural: 5 Ways to Make Your Natural Hair Products Last Longer One of the many misconceptions about having natural hair is you have to spend a lot of money on products, but the truth is you really do not have to do so. I have learned several ways of making my natural hair products stretch or last longer. Here are 5 tips that work for me: 1. Add water : If you have products like shampoos, moisturizers, and leave-in conditioners that are very rich or concentrated, you can try adding some water to them to make them stretch. Stir or shake them up. You can also try using water in place of a store bought moisturizer. 2. Add oil: You can also add oil to your water-based moisturizers and leave-in conditioners. This way, you can moisturize and seal all in one application. Hair Update: Seborrheic Dermatitis, Hair Growth, etc. Hi, my blessed naturals! I hope you all are having a great Saturday. Last month, I told you I was using the Generic Brand for Derma-Smoothe/FS for Seborrheic Dermatitis. I also started Ciclopirox shampoo (by prescription) which is used to treat Seborrheic Dermatitis. Thank God, the oil and shampoo have greatly improved the condition of my scalp. It does not itch as much as it did before the treatments. I've been keeping my hair in the puff with front flat twists style . I washed my hair yesterday and banded it. This morning, I removed the bands and took the picture above. 5 Ways to Moisturize Natural Hair Hey, my blessed naturals! The one question I always get from my fellow naturals is what can they do to moisturize dry natural hair. Here are 5 ways that work for me: 1. LOC Method: LOC stands for Liquid, Oil, and Cream. I've used this method a lot in the past, especially when I first went natural. I would apply water, olive oil, and a leave-in conditioner or moisturizer. This method allows you to moisturize your hair and then seal in the moisture using an oil My favorite moisturizer is the Cantu Creamy hair lotion. My favorite oil to use currently is coconut oil. Pay attention to how often you need to apply the products to your hair. For example, in the winter, I have to moisturize and seal my hair 2 times a day. In the summer, I only have have to do this once a day or every other day. 2. Deep Condition: After washing my hair, I try to always deep condition it. I usually apply a creamy conditioner like Suave Almond and Shea Butte...

1BlessedNatural: Grocery Coconut Oil Talk Happy Tuesday, my blessed naturals, I ran out of Coconut Oil (Aceite de Coco) quite awhile ago, so I ran into Pathmark to get some. They have the 2.2 oz of De La Cruz Coconut Oil and the Arnica Salve sample for $2.79. I'd rather buy the Cococare brand of Coconut Oil at my local beauty supply store because it's cheaper, and I can get more for my money. But, I was in a rush. 1BlessedNatural (natural hairstyle): Rubber Band Happy Sunday, my blessed naturals! I hope you all are having a great evening. Since today is my wash day, I decided to try doing a new natural hairstyle before washing my hair. I've been thinking about using rubber bands for a style. I don't use them too much because they can cause your hair to break. The last time I used them was for my beaded two-strand twists . I parted medium sized squares in the front of my hair, then I put rubber bands (loosely) on them. After twisting the sections,  I connected twisted the twists around each other and tucked them under using a hair pin. The back section of my hair was put in a puff. Biya was in attendance with several other African leaders including her husband and President of Cameroon, Paul Biya, President Barack Obama, and First Lady Michelle Obama. Mrs. Biya stood out with her copper red wigs in big curls and waves. She wore a few different styles. Most of them were cut into a short and fluffed style at the top with long hair at the bottom.
