3 Quick Alternatives to Bedtime Twists

M any of us naturals twist our hair before bedtime. But, what happens when you don't feel like twisting your hair and you want to keep your hair stetched, detangled, wavy, and/or curly? Here are 3 ways you can quickly style your hair before bedtime without having to sit and install several twists: After moisturizing and sealing, you can... 1. P ineappling The Pineapple hair method is when you put your natural hair in ponytails to keep your curls without the need to retwist. I do not use the Pineapple method often. But, when I do use it, I section my hair my hair into 4 ponytails. You may decrease or increase the amount based on your hair's length and thickness.                       2 . Bunning   Bunning is a good method to use before bedtime because you can put your hair in a ponytail and swirl the hair around the base of the ponytail holder...

Twist Out Not Drying Overnight?

If you wash and twist your hair before bedtime, you may wake up with damp hair. I have found a technique that may work for you... Put your hair in 3-4 sections and big clip each section. You can remove the clips and smooth your hair from root to tip (to remove some of the dampness), about 20-30 minutes before you leave. After you've finished getting ready, you can remove the clips from the hair, separate, fluff. This method works 8 out of 10 times for me. Do you have a problem with your hair drying overnight?

Natural Hair in the Summer Months

I have been hearing many people say they do not want to go natural because of the summer months. Supernanny, Deborah Tillman also expressed the same concern in my interview with her. As a result, I started researching and thinking about the specific concerns of being natural in the summertime. Hopefully, this post will help some of you who are thinking about letting your roots show :-) Moisture Madness - During the summer months, we know the air can be hot, humid, and/ or dry at times. As a result, you may need to moisturize (with a moisturizer) and seal (using an oil) your hair a little more than normal, especially if you stay in direct sunlight. If it is humid you may need to moisturize your hair a little less. You also have the option of applying gels and other hair products that contain glycerin, because they will obtain moisture from the air. Your hair will stay moisturized for a longer period of time. No Sweat- With the increasing temperatures in the summer months,...

Natural Girl with Flat Shoes

I am a natural girl who loves flats! Because I walk a lot, I need supportive shoes. Once in awhile, I will splurge on some supportive shoes. But, if I am in a rush just to get a half decent pair of shoes, I will not hesitate to visit PayLess ShoeSource. The problem that I have found with many flat shoes is that they do not support your feet well. This weekend's visit to PayLess yielded good results. I found a pair of Dexflex by Dexter shoes (in the picture above) for $24.99. I like them because they're cute shoes with a more supportive sole. Another item I like to purchase for flat shoes are Dr Scholl's insoles. They are a good little investment for unsupportive flat shoes. Have you tried Dr. Scholl's inserts?

Teenage Boy's Curls: Part 2

If you read my last past on my nephew , he was trying to find the right products to enhance his natural curls. He now uses Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and EcoStyler Olive Oil Gel. He also gets regular shape-ups to keep his hair neat. If you are rocking a short natural hairstyle, you may want to try those products on your hair. What products does your teen use in his/her hair?

Moving On From Traction Alopecia: Part 4

My sister C, liked my medium two-strand twist, pin curl out so much, that she asked me to do her hair the same way:-) It took me about 3 hours to finger part and complete twists which where a little smaller than mine. I used a spritz water bottle, Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and Coconut Oil on her hair. When I was twisting her hair, C told me she wanted me to make a bang section in the front to hide her forehead a bit. Although her hair in the front is very long, I knew the pin curls would make it shrink up a bit. So, when I made the twists, I twisted them towards the front for her bang. Afterwards, I created 4 pin curls in her hair. She had 3 in the back and 1 in the front bang area. She kept her pin curls in for 1 night. In the morning, her hair was very full, bouncy, and soft We decided on the bun with bang hairstyle. It's good because it hides her Traction Alopecia spots on one side, as well as the front of her head. You can see from the pictures that...

Medium Two-Strand Twist, Pin Curl Out Results

Hey everyone, I hope you are enjoying your day. I wanted to share the results of my two-strand twist, pin curls. I've kept the pin curls in my hair for about two days. My hair was still moisturized from root to tip due to the fact that my hair was tucked. It's also been very humid. The back of my hair was separated. I didn't care though, lol. I pulled my hair apart as best as I could, and went ahead and rocked it anyway. The two-strand pin curls are a great alternative if you do not want to put rollers in your hair.

Back of Hair, Length Check and Quick Twists

This weekend I took out one of the back banded sections of my hair and did a length check.  Because I've cut and clipped my hair several times throughout my two years of going natural, I was surprised to see that my hair had grown as much. If you read my post from yesterday , then you read about my indecisiveness on finding a hairstyle for my banded hair. At the last minute, I decided to do a two-strand twist protective style. I usually do mini-twists , but this time I did small to medium-sized twists. It took me approximately 4 hours.  I water-spritzed, moisturized, and sealed each section of hair while twisting. Because my hair was damp, my twists started to curl up. After I finished, I two strand twisted the twists in big sections and formed pin curls. I will do a follow-up post on my hair soon.  What style are you rocking this week?

Weekend Afro Fluffiness!

The picture above was taken on Saturday before I washed my hair. Why does your hair look the best when it's dirty lol. Smh.  Does your hair look better when it's dirty or freshly washed? lol I'm serious.

Banded and Pinned Natural Hair

It's been almost two weeks since I've washed my hair. I've cowashed it 2 or 3 times, but I haven't used my Castile soap mixture . My hair has been really dirty because of the pollen, lint, and everything else floating in the air lol. Last night, I banded my hair after washing and conditioning it. I wanted to sleep with my hair banded, so I used Bobby pins to pin the sections towards the back. It's also a great method to get your hair straighter than you would if you were to just band your hair. I'm not sure of the style that I want yet, buut, I think it will be easier to keep my hair cleaner when it's stretched, than when it's curly. If I need to apply a moisturizer and run a comb through, I will hit less tangles. Are you doing your hair today?

Little Girl with Cornrows

Happy Sunday everyone! Here's a picture of another one of my niece's hair. You can check out the colored bands hairstyle . I posted about her hair a while back.  Like CL , she hates to get her hair done, lol.  Her mom did her hair in the current style. I like her cornrow hairstyle because it's cute and simple. ' What hairstyles are your little ones wearing today?

Little Girl with Curls

Here is a picture I took of my niece, CL. Like my sister's hair, my niece's hair is very soft. I've done posts that included her two-strand twists , ponytails , and ribbon hair styles. She is what we call "tender-headed" lol. When you try to comb her hair, she screams like she is in pain. CL hates to get her hair combed. She even hates when you look at her hair for too long lol. My niece and nephew have to distract her in order to comb her hair. Smh. lol.

Moving On From Traction Alopecia: Part 3 -The Texture

Tonight, I retwisted my sister, C's hair.First, I spritzed the hair with water and applied Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. Then, I sealed her hair with Coconut Oil. Her hair is very soft and curly. C is shocked her hair is as long as it is lol. Job well done, lady!
