(photo cred: Mattel) Earlier this month, Mattel announced that it would be releasing a special collector's edition Barbie honoring Oscar Award-winning Selma director, Ava DuVernay. When the doll went on sale on December 7, 2015 on both the Barbie Collection and Amazon websites, it sold out the same day, leaving fans asking when it would be available again. On December 8th, Mattel released tweets stating that the Ava DuVernay dolls were collector's items and sold out quickly. Only 999 of them were available to be purchased. This left many fans disappointed. One of the doll's fans asked on December 18th about its availability, and Mattel tweeted, "We're so sorry, at this time, the doll is sold out and we don't have plans to release more." I've seen several videos on Facebook and YouTube, including the one by HouseOfChappleTV (shown below). Online tutorials for man weaves first started popping up online about 2 years ago. I've also seen articles and videos about lace front beards. The process of getting a man weave usually involves a kinky/curly lace front wig being cut to size and applied to a man's bald spot using glue.The hair is then blended in using a brush, hair dye, and extra hair for the sides if needed. There are also different techniques that involve glue and sewn-in weaves. Man weaves are worn for mainly two reasons. I have been natural for 1 year and 11 months. My two year natural anniversary is coming up soon! :) It has definitely been a journey. I've worn wigs, gotten braids, and have had plenty of sew-ins. Natural Hair Update: Coconut Oil Mostly - This photo was taken last Sunday before church. My hair was banded washed the night before. Happy Sunday, my blessed naturals! I know it's been awhile since I've given you all an update on my natural hair. Because the weather has been in the 60s and 70s, I've been able to use mostly coconut oil my hair during the week, but I still follow my weekly wash day routine. The first couple of days after wash day, I apply coconut oil to my hair while it is in 4 sections. I wear it in either in a puff or 4 sections to keep it stretched throughout the week. On Wednesday or Thursday, I spritz my hair with water, apply Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion, and coconut oil. Then, coconut oil is used once a day until wash day . (photo cred: Instagram) Thanksgiving weekend, Leah Still gave us cuteness overload when her dad, former Cincinnati Bengals football player, Devon Still shared a picture of her wearing finger waves on Instagram. Still's caption was this: Leah tried to snap today with the finger waves.its [sic] Thanksgiving so it's only right #LeahStrong..." Still and Leah's mother, Channing Smythe recently received great news that the 5-year-old was cancer-free. Last year, little Leah was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma. Neuroblastoma affects nerve cells during development and is commonly found in children 5 years of age and younger.
