Hair Update: Banana Clip Ponytail Puff

Happy Sunday everyone! This is the day the Lord has made and we shall rejoice and be glad in it.- Psalm 118-24 Even if you cannot get someone a gift this CHRISTmas, make sure you show them some love. Give them a hug :-) In hair-related news... I haven't been in the mood to do my hair. I keep saying I'm going to wash it. I threw some ECO Styler gel, water, and Cantu in my hair and put a banana clip in it. I didn't comb or brush it. I must admit that I was happy that my hair was long enough to pull into a ponytail. I don't think my it has ever been stretched enough to pull all of my hair together, except for a regular puff. What's your go-to style?

Ways to Keep Tangles to a Minimum

Happy Sunday everyone! I hope that everyone is having a good day. Please keep the families of the Connecticut shooting victims in your prayers. Thursday I co-washed my hair to remove the wrap lotion from the rollerset. My hair was softer, but t probably will be even better when I shampoo it. I did a two-strand bantu knot out. I liked the definition in the picture above. Lately, I have been really trying to keep my tangles to a minimum, and I figured I would share what I have learned. Detangle Properly You may use your fingers, wide-tooth comb, or a brush. I usually detangle my hair while it is wet with conditioner or shampoo. I go through section by section slowly from root to tip. I was using a Gabriela (Denman-like) brush every time. But I think that started to put too much stress on my strands, so I use it once in a while now.  Keep Your Hair Stretched Keeping you hair stretched is a good way to keep your strands from wrapping around each other and tangling. ...

Day 3: NO Heat Rollerset Comb Out After Pin Curls

Roller set hair after combing it out and pin curls The picture above is the result of the pin curls that I installed last night. Although I am happy with the appearance of my hair, I do not like the crunchiness from the setting lotion. I will be co-washing my hair tonight. removing the pin curls Have you experienced crunchiness after doing a roller set?

Day 2: Roller Set with NO Heat (Continued)

My roller set hair after combing it out Happy Thursday! Last night, I attempted to comb my hair after applying Coconut Oil. Bad idea! My hair was still a bit crunchy from the setting lotion. Also, my curls were very tight, so it placed stress on my ends. I wrapped my hair, but I decided to take it out. Next time, I will try combing and wrapping my hair when I use the big rollers.

Day 2: Roller Set with No Heat Style

Hey everyone! Last night I put my hair in pin curls before I went to sleep. This morning, I took them out and applied Coconut Oil to my hair. I grabbed two sections in the back, twisted them upward and pinned them. My curls have softened up. Tonight, I might try to comb out my curls a little and wrap it or pin curl them again. I'm loving these curls :-)  It's weird because this is the straightest that my hair has been since I have gone natural.

Roller Set With NO HEAT: Success

No heat roller set...air dried,  8 hours after removing rollers Hey everyone! If you have been reading my last posts, then you know that I have been fighting the urge to use direct heat on my hair. The first time I tried a roller set without heat, my hair came out ok. But, the humidity made my hair look like cotton balls lol. Plus, my curls did not come out as smooth as I would have liked them. This time was a different story. Thank God because I would have been looking a mess lol. The website called The Long Healthy Hair Advisor helped me tremendously!   Before You Start, Do a Test Before I washed my hair, I  performed a test on a small section of hair at the nape of my neck. I tried rolling the turquoise magnetic rollers using setting lotion and water. Then I tried the purple rollers. I allowed the section to dry overnight. My results were good. Items Needed  Rat tail comb Leave-in conditioner (I used Carol's Daughter's Hair Milk Le...

1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Ella Joyce

(Photo courtesy of Ella Joyce's Facebook page) Happy Sunday everyone, You may remember actress Ella Joyce from shows like "Roc" (alongside Charles Dutton) and "My Wife and Kids". Joyce has also acted in one of my favorite movies Preacher's Kid starring LeToya Luckett. Last week, I saw an advertisement on TVOne for a new television show called " Belle's " which will be starring Joyce along with Tami Roman ("Basketball Wives"), Miguel Nunez, and Elise Neal. The one thing that I immediately noticed was Joyce's thick beautiful curls; I didn't know that she was natural. After doing more research, I found that Joyce also has a book out called Kink Phobia in which she discusses her natural hair ideas and techniques. I have to go out in buy this book and check out the buzz... "Belle's" is expected to air on TVOne on January 21, 2012. Be sure to check out Joyce in it! Update 3/8/2013 Check out Ella on the ...

21 Months Natural Hair: Update

Happy Tuesday everyone, Yesterday was my 21 months hairanniversary! The funny thing is that I would probably have forgotten if it wasn't for Naturali-Chik posting hers lol. I haven't been posting much about my hair because I haven't been doing anything new. Yesterday, I washed, deep conditioned, and installed two-strand twisted pin curls. This morning I took them out for a twist out. But, the humidity made my little waves disappear lol. Yesterday, I was looking in my product collection for a shampoo and pulled out the Revitalizing Shampoo by Finesse. The bottle of shampoo is at least 6 years old lol. It was one of those products that you think is not for your hair after you buy it. This time I was wrong :-) It worked just fine. My hair was super dirty. As for the condition of my hair... It is pretty healthy, thank God. Two weeks ago I trimmed my ends while my hair was in mini twists. I only clipped about 1/4-1/2 inch off (which was not a lot).  I clip my ends every...
