Zarya - Lori Doll (Doll with Natural Hair)

1BlessedNatural: Zarya - Lori Doll (Doll with Natural Hair) Happy Monday, my blessed naturals! Many of you know that I recently started collecting dolls . My sister gave me the Zarya doll which is part of the Lori O.G. (Our Generation) collection. The brown curly-haired doll is dressed in a cute blue and yellow dress, pair of tights, and blue and white boots that matches her dress. She is also wearing a grey hat and carrying a pink and cream knitted purse. I think she has a very classic look. The Zarya doll is great if you're a doll collector or looking for a doll with natural hair to give your little girl. It is for ages 3 and up. There are also individual props for the doll that include things like a ballet studio that are sold separately. If you would like to purchase the Zarya doll, she is available on Amazon Prime. Check out the information below.   1BlessedNatural: Closeup of the Zarya Doll 1BlessedNatural: back of the Zarya doll box Woul...

Mushiya Gives Military Women Fashion and Natural Hair Makeovers (photo cred: Brainchild Associates) On January 11th, 2016, WEtv star of Cutting It: in the ATL and Runway Curls owner, Mushiya Tshikuka hosted a natural hair and fashion makeover day for women in the U.S. military and veterans. The event was called #NaturalsStandTall and featured 7 makeovers and a discussion about natural hair regulations in the military. After the women received their makeovers, they were given the chance to show off their new looks in a fashion show. Tshikuka, who is also owner of the The Damn Salon collaborated with the Minority Women Veterans Organization (MWVO) for the event. MWVO's "Glamming Forward" campaign director Nyrea Liferidge and spokesperson/image consultant Monique Sellers-Greene both participated in the natural hair conversation hosted by Tshikuka. Both Greene and Liferidge are U.S. military veterans. The women talked about struggles in the military with natura...

1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Evangelist Ima Gail

1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Evangelist Ima Gail When we talk about our natural hair journey, it is always important to understand that it is not a linear experience. You natural hair journey may consist of twists and turns as you struggle to find out what will and will not work for your hair. Like myself, you may also experience breakage and have to cut your hair. It is important to give yourself time to learn what works for you. One person who knows about that all too well is Evangelist Ima Gail Dunbar-Thomas. In March of 2015, Evangelist Ima contacted me to find how to take care of her natural hair. Right before then, she discontinued the use of dyes because they were drying her hair out and causing it to break. Her soft curls were in a TWA style that she kept in puff. That was her favorite style because her hair wouldn't hold any other one. On the flip side, Evangelist Ima Gail's natural hair never really got tangled. Sometimes that can happen when you have a re...

Yolanda Adams Shares Photo of Her Afro!

1BlessedNatural: Yolanda Adams Shares Photo of Her Afro! (photo cred: Facebook) Today, gospel singer and radio host, Yolanda Adams posted a photo of her big and pretty Afro on Facebook. Her caption read this : ...About to shampoo all this beautiful Natural Hair before BET Celebration of Gospel Rehearsal. The singer continued by thanking her hairstylists for taking care of her strands. She tends to wear wigs and weaves for protective styling. It's no wonder she grew out all of her hair without us noticing! Back in 2014, Adams first shared a post of her transitioning  hair on Facebook. She'd been growing it out for one and a half months at the time. I'm glad to see Ms. Adams' embracing her natural hair! I love the look on her! 2016 Natural Hair Length Check and Goals

1BlessedNatural: 2016 Natural Hair Length Check and Goals Happy New Year, my blessed naturals! I hope you all are starting it off great! Sunday, I got a chance to do a length check on the back of my hair. The last time I did one with my length check t-shirt was back in March of 2015. Because I haven't been doing a whole lot to my hair, it's been getting thicker and thicker. Plus, I gained about one inch of growth; it went from 6 inches to 7 inches. This time, I really didn't expect to see an increase in the length because of the moisture overload and other breakage issues I experienced last year. But, thank God for progress! This weekend, I did one of my homemade protein treatments , and my hair loved it! My hair tends to lose a lot of protein from washing it every week. The last time I did a protein treatment was this past September. I've said this before, but I can wait longer between treatments when I use my mixture than when I use the store-bought...
