Father Doing Daughter's Hair : #2

Happy Friday everyone! Thank God, it's Friday! Last month, I posted an interview with actor and model, Antonio Starks about him styling his daughter's hair. Today, I am sharing a picture I found of my brother styling my niece, J's hair. Before brushing my niece's hair, my brother applied Motions Oil Moisturizer Lotion to it. Afterwards, her hair was put into a ponytail. This picture was taken around 2011. Her hair was blow-dried. Today, J styles her own hair. Sometimes her aunt styles it. If you would like to share a father and daughter hair picture, you can email me at 1BlessedNatural@gmail.com . Please type "Father and Daughter" in the subject line.  I may ask you for additional details .  Related Articles: Father Doing Daughter's Hair Exclusive!                          1BlessedNatural  Spotlight: J's Braid Out   ...

Natural Girl Gone Thrifting: Part 3

Hey everyone! I hope you've enjoyed Part 1 and 2 of my series " Natural Girl Gone Thrifting ".This article will be the last one in my series, for now. Because I really like thrift shopping, I may do more articles about the topic in the future. This month, I revisited Unique Thrift Store. I bought the following items: 1. Sleeveless Denim, button-up shirt: My hair was styled in the front flat twist style with a big puff in the back . I put a black tank top under the sleeveless denim, button-up shirt . I placed a black, half sweater on top of the thrifted denim top. 2. Sleeveless (pink, tan, green) plaid tank top:   I wore the plaid tank with a tan half sweater and khaki pants. 3. Tribal print, button-up shirt:    I paired the tribal print shirt with blue jeans and black penny loafers.   4.Button-up sweater (Black, white, pink):   (1)  Plaid tank t...

Sun Highlighted Hair?

Happy Wednesday everyone!  This weekend, I took out my front flat twists , pulled one side into a puff, and left the other side down as a side bang. After I took the picture, I realized that my hair had highlights. At first, I thought it could have possibly been the way the light was shinning on it. But, I think the sun lightened the color of my hair. My natural hair color is jet black! I remember having the same issue when I would perm my hair. I should have worn summer hats all summer, lol. The good news is that I don't have to worry about using Koolaid, Henna, or a coloring system on my hair, lol...rocking on! Here's a picture of my hair with the light turned off. Does your hair have sun highlights?

1BlessedNatural Feature: Alvalon Whitaker

1. What made you decide to go natural?    I’d been contemplating it for a few months. I noticed how thin my hair was becoming every time my beautician relaxed my hair. I transitioned for eight months, and then I did what they call a big chop. I just did it at home myself. I had grown tired of paying big money for hair care while my hair was becoming less and less…   2. What were your friends and loved ones' reactions to your decision? My family loves my hair, no more concerns about thinning hair. My friends had to get use to the change. Now, some of them are going natural and I love sharing what I’ve learned thus far. 3. What is your current hair regimen? I shampoo once a month, co-wash 2 -3 times a week, sometimes more often if I have product build-up. I use a leave-in conditioner, seal with oil. I use Hot Grow once a week by Dr Miracles. I’ll wear a 2 strand twist for 2-3 days, moisturizing as needed. The rest of the week I’ll wear twist out styl...

*SPOILER ALERT*: Review of Lee Daniels' The Butler

Lee Daniels' The Butler (photo courtesy of the Lee Daniels' The Butler Facebook page) Rating: PG-13  132 mins Synopsis The movie,  Lee Daniel's The Butler takes its audience back through the history of black and white racial relations, The Vietnam war, and other significant events by stepping into the shoes of White House butler, Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker). Gaines served through 8 terms of United States presidents. The movie covers the time period from the 1920's until 2008. Gaines quickly learns (at a very young age) that whites have the upper hand. Instead of trying to beat them, he is taught to join by serving them. His traumatic experiences in the south lead him to want to start a better life for his family in the north. His "join them" mentality landed him a job working at the White House. Although Gaines attempted not to stir up any pot of politics, his son Louis Gaines (David Oyelowo) did the exact opposite.
