Heat, Humidity, Twists, and Twist-Outs

1BlessedNatural: Heat, Humidity, Twists, and Twist-Outs Happy Saturday, my blessed naturals! This week, I've been wearing medium-size twists and twist-outs. I twisted my hair using water (spritz), Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion , and coconut oil (as my sealer) on Wednesday night. Since the weather has been in the 80s and humid, my hair's been staying moisturized longer. I love it! The high humidity also means more shrinkage. Womp, womp lol, but it's all good. Today, my twists were removed for a twist-out, and my hair was still moisturized. When I re-twist tonight, I will probably just use water and coconut oil.    How's the weather been treating your natural hair?  Related Articles: Twist-Out on Braid-Out Hairstyle                             How to Get a Fluffier and Fuller Twist-Out       ...

Pin Curl Twist-Out, Moisture, and Natural Hair Ad Talk

1BlessedNatural: Pin Curl Twist-Out, Moisture, and Natural Hair Ad Talk Happy Monday, my blessed naturals, I hope you all are having a great start to your week. Since I haven't done a twist-out in awhile, I decided to do one this weekend. I used the SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothi e and Extra Virgin Olive Oil on my hair before twisting and pin curling it. My hair gets moisturized to the core when I apply a moisturizer, two-strand twist, and pin curl it. Because the hair is clumped together, the moisture doesn't evaporate as quickly; it has more time to penetrate the strands. Because it was unseasonably warm yesterday, I didn't need to moisturize my hair last night.Yes! lol 1BlessedNatural: side and front views of pin curl twist-out 1BlessedNatural: side view of my pin curl twist-out 1BlessedNatural: Delta Air Lines poster with women rocking Bantu knot-out Natural hair is making waves everywhere. Natural Hair Puff with Turquoise Flower

I hope everyone is having a great week! Last night, I co-washed and banded my hair. My hair needed washing because it's been hot and I've been using Olive Oil on my scalp. I loved the fact that my hair was still moisturized after it was co-washed. This morning I applied water and Ecostyler Olive Oil gel and water to my edges. Then I used a hair tie to create a puff. I bought the decorative flower clip at a sale at Claire's. Check out my other puff styles! 1. Puff with Flat Twisted Swoop Bang and Comb 2. Puff with Rosette 3. Puff with Side Flat Twists and Swoop Bang What's your favorite puff style?

Natural Hair in the Summer Months

I have been hearing many people say they do not want to go natural because of the summer months. Supernanny, Deborah Tillman also expressed the same concern in my interview with her. As a result, I started researching and thinking about the specific concerns of being natural in the summertime. Hopefully, this post will help some of you who are thinking about letting your roots show :-) Moisture Madness - During the summer months, we know the air can be hot, humid, and/ or dry at times. As a result, you may need to moisturize (with a moisturizer) and seal (using an oil) your hair a little more than normal, especially if you stay in direct sunlight. If it is humid you may need to moisturize your hair a little less. You also have the option of applying gels and other hair products that contain glycerin, because they will obtain moisture from the air. Your hair will stay moisturized for a longer period of time. No Sweat- With the increasing temperatures in the summer months,...

Two-Strand Twists with Beads Adult Hairstyle

Hey everyone, In November, I did an afro style with beads. I've been wanting to do twists with beads, but I did not have patience until I saw MahoganyKnots' video " Beady Bead ". I jumped into the time machine and became a little girl again lol. Hair Preparation  I washed and deep conditioned my hair. Then, I applied Giovanni's Leave-In Conditioner , Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie , and Coconut Oil to my hair. After applying the products, I banded and two-strand twisted my hair.   Installing the Beads I purchased 4 packs of black, white, and clear beads . I also brought snag-proof elastic bands . Snag-proof elastic bands have a shiny coating as opposed to regular rubber bands that are dry. I purchased them from Dealz for $1.00 (500-pack). I used a bobby pin and the bead wan to install the beads. *WARNING*- Please check the beads for snags because they may break your hair. All edges should be smooth. It will save you the time and...

Hair Update: Tea Tree Oil Treatment and Cleansing

If you saw my last post, then you saw the length check of the back of my hair. I've finally found a hair regimen that works for my hair. I learned so many new things about my hair, and I'm still learning :-)  Castile Soap & Tea Tree Oil You all may know I don't like to use shampoo often to cleanse my hair. I like to use my Castile Soap mixture. Recently, I've added Tea Tree Oil to the soap to treat dandruff. I originally discussed using the oil nightly, but I have not adjusted to the smell of 100% pure Tea Tree Oil. As a result, I've opted to use it in my cleanser when I wash my hair every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. I apply the Castile soap mixture (with Tea Tree Oil ) to my hair and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes, then I rinse it out. My scalp has been a lot cleaner.  This past week, I decided to shampoo my hair for the first time in 1-2 months. My hair was really dry. Since I have been moisturizing and sealing my hair every night, my hair has been he...

Natural Hair Product Review of Giovanni Direct Leave-In Weightless Moisture Conditioner

Product: Giovanni Direct Leave-In (TM) Weightless Moisture Conditioner Place: Whole Foods, local beauty supply store, drug store Price: $7.89 First Five Ingredients:  Aqua (Purified Water), Cetyl Alcohol, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), Citric (Grapefruit) Extract, *Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leafe Juice... The back also indicates that some of the ingredients are "* USDA Certified Organic" The back of the bottle also reads, "We do not add parabens, lauryl or laureth sulfate, or dyes to this  product". Because I ran out of Carol's Daughter's Hair Milk Lite Leave-In Moisturizer , I decided to try the Giovanni Leave-In Conditioner. I heard many things about it. I applied it to my freshly washed and deep conditioned hair. I love it! It's very light. I only use a small amount on each section of my hair, and it leaves my hair soft and moisturized, but not greasy. I will definitely be using this conditioner in the fut...

Preparing My Hair for Nightly Twists for Twist-Out

Happy Friday everyone, Thank God that we made it through the week. It is only by Him that I made it through today! In hair related news, I recently bought a 3-pack of travel size bottles from DEALS discount store. I think I paid a little over $1.00 for them. The package contained 1 small spray bottle and 2 push-cap tops. I've been doing twist outs daily, all week long and concentrating on keeping my ends moisturized. Things Needed for My Nightly Twists 1. Cantu Coconut Curling Cream 2. Small spray bottle-with water -I love the small spray bottles because you can mist your hair instead of getting water all over everything 3. Small push-cap bottle with Coconut Oil 4. Bobby pins Hair Preparation (* special attention to the ends) 1. I finger part my hair into medium sized sections 2. Grab one section and spritz it with water a few times* 3. Finger detangle the section gently  4. Apply an index finger full of the Cantu Coconut Curling Cre...

Hair Update: Changing My Regimen

Hey everyone! I have been adjusting to the shorter length of my hair. I also like the fact that I can do things a little differently and apply new things that I've learned.  Shampoo Less  I have decided to stop using shampoo as often as I normally would. Because shampoos strip your hair of moisture, I have decided to use my Castille soap mixture or co-wash as an alternative. This is good for me especially because my hair gets super dry in the winter. I have to moisturize and seal my hair twice a day. 2nd day two-strand, pin curl twist-out Styling   I am a big fan of trying different styles, but I like to give myself and hair a break sometimes. Lately, I've been alternating between two-strand twist pin curls and twist-outs. This way I can give myself a break every other day or so, but still have fun styling my hair.  Before I cut my hair, I loved to do styles on freshly washed hair. Now, I don't mind doing different styles at any time. ...

1BlessedNatural Experience: My Verdict On Using a Petrolatum Product

Happy New Year everyone! I hope that you all had a great holiday, and I wish you many blessings for the new year! So, if you read my last post , then you saw that I tried using the Softee Coconut Oil Hair and Scalp Conditioner as a sealant (see pic above). I am happy with my results. I applied the KeraCare Conditioning Hair Dress and then applied the product by Softee. My hair stayed moisturized and soft throughout the week. The only issue that I had was that my hair was very greasy the next morning because I used too much of the product. By the end of the first day, my hair was fine. As a result of my little experiment, petrolatum products are better sealants than Shea Butter for me. However, I still love to use Shea Butter. So, I will probably alternate between the two depending on the weather.

Glycerin & Natural Hair

Glycerin I've finally got my hands on a bottle of Glycerin. I always let my finger coils air dry when I do them. I've noticed that the top of my hair (which is the thickest part) would always stay a little moist. If the humidity was high outside, my coils would be damp. I thought it was the Glycerin in the Eco Styler gel. Curly Nikki confirmed it :-) The article explains that Glycerin attains moisture from the air. That's too cool :-) I mixed Glycerin with water and applied it to my hair. I'm pleased with results.
