Protective Style: Mini Braids

I've gotten tired of doing my hair everyday, so I decided to install mini braids as my protective style. You all know may know that mini twists are my favorite protective style, but I decided to switch things up a bit. I have worn micro braids with extensions, but I wasn't feeling the idea of having extensions in my hair for a long period of time. Plus, I need my edges lol. This weekend I spent about 8 or 9 hours (many breaks included) installing mini braids. Yes! I think my braids are the tightest and nicest when I under braid them. The problem with that fact is that it takes me all day to braid lol. I think I braid in slow motion (when under braiding), lol. I ran out of hair at the end of braiding many of the braids. I just twisted the remaining two strands, creating two-strand twists at the end. When I finished, I was a bit disappointed because a lot of my scalp was showing. Also, the braids weren't as full as I expected. I had to remind myself that I wasn'...

After Braids: My Edges

I should have posted this picture sooner. But, I wanted to show you guys how the micro braids pulled out my edges. They are thin and bald in some areas. Lesson learned... If I ever get extensions again, I will not get micro braids. I only kept the braids in for 3 weeks. You can imagine if I had left them in longer.

Washing Micro Braids

After washing my braids This past week, I washed my braids. I was using the Motions Oil Sheen spray because I didn't have any other spray= bad move :-(. There was so much build up, and my scalp was itchy. I brought the African Royale braid spray and that works really well for me. I washed my hair (in the shower) with the Creme of Nature Red Clover & Aloe Soothing Shampoo. I massaged the shampoo on my edges and in between my parts without disturbing the braids too much. I only had the braids in for a little over a week, so they were still tight. I massaged the shampoo on the extensions while holding the ends avoid my hair pulling too much. Then, I rinsed my hair. I let the water beat between my parts to remove any shampoo or and/or buildup. Afterwards, I applied Garnier Sleek & Shine conditioner to my hair (which started to feel very soft) ; I put my hair in  ponytail and let it sit for about 10 minutes. After washing the conditioner out, I blotted my braids with a...

Protective Styling/ First Salon Experience: Knotted Micro Braids

I've been wanting braids for a while now. Today, I had the patience to sit down and get them done. Today was the first time that I have been to a salon since I've gone natural (5 months) I am happy the results. When I first made my appointment, I said I wanted braids a little bit bigger than micro braids. But, the stylist ended up doing them any way, which was not a problem.  I used the Wet and Wavy Human Hair by Janet. My stylist braided my hair about two inches, and then put a knot at the end of the section of hair to keep it from coming a loose. One of my friends had just suggested that I should not get micro braids because of the stress that they place on the hairline. Check out the braids in the front at the top (TIGHT) lol. But, I'm not worried . I shampooed, deep conditioned and detangled my hair the night before. In the morning, I applied Organics Olive Oil Leave-In Conditioner  by Africa's BEST and Coconut Oil. I had a feeling that my stylist was...
