Hair Update: Seborrheic Dermatitis, Hair Growth, etc.

Hair Update: Seborrheic Dermatitis, Hair Growth, etc. Hi, my blessed naturals! I hope you all are having a great Saturday. Last month, I told you I was using the Generic Brand for Derma-Smoothe/FS for Seborrheic Dermatitis. I also started Ciclopirox shampoo (by prescription) which is used to treat Seborrheic Dermatitis. Thank God, the oil and shampoo have greatly improved the condition of my scalp. It does not itch as much as it did before the treatments. I've been keeping my hair in the puff with front flat twists style . I washed my hair yesterday and banded it. This morning, I removed the bands and took the picture above. My hair is healthy and growing, thank God! Some of you may remember Briana T's feature . I saw her today, and her fro is huge and beautiful! Good job, Bri! Please check her out if you haven't already! 1BlessedNatural's hair stretched How are you doing with your natural hair?   Don't forget to ENTER to WIN a book b...

Does My Natural Hair Grow Faster Than My Permed Hair?

Happy Sunday everyone, Since I've made the choice to go natural, my hair seems to be growing at a faster pace than when it was permed. Every time my friends and family see me after a short period of time, they say, "Your hair has gotten longer!" I also take a multivitamins, so I figured maybe that was increasing my growth.  But, when I did my research and thought about the subject, I found out that my natural hair was not growing faster than my permed hair. Regardless of your effort, on average, hair grows about 1/2 inch per month. This may vary slightly, depending on genetics and lifestyle. I also realized that when I was perming my hair, I would get my ends trimmed about every 2-3 months or when it was time for another perm. But, I trim my natural hair approximately every 4 months or as needed. Because my hair is not chemically straightened or colored, I do not have to deal with my hair being in an already weakened state when I style it. I try to keep it moist...

Natural Hair & Protective Styling Obsession

It's been 4 months since my Big Chop. Hey everyone,          We now have a wealth of natural hair information (Thank God) on the internet. You can view blogs, videos, and other websites. But, one must be able to sift through all of the information given and use the methods/products that work for your hair. I remember when I was ten years ago, and I got my first perm. My grandmother warned that my hair would be more fragile with a perm. She said that less hair manipulation was the best. Otherwise, my hair would break off. Now that I am a natural, I have heard many people say that protective styling and low manipulation is best. So, I guess both are fragile??? permed and natural hair.        These mixed signals have become a bit of a nuisance for me lol because I love to try new styles for my hair. I do not want to wake up and be afraid of styling my hair because it might fall out. But, this is all in moderatio...
