1BN Kids: Upward Rubber Band Twists Into Twisted Bun Style

1BN Kids: Upward Rubber Band, French Braid Into Twisted Bun Style Happy Tuesday, my blessed naturals! I hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend. Little Sister Natural (LSN) is heading back to school with her hair in upward twists into a twisted bun style. I love how her mother did the style because the back was sectioned off into rectangles using rubber bands, split them into two sections, and (correction) two-strand twisted them upward into the top ponytail. The top section was put into a ponytail and sectioned into 2 big twists. The twists were wrapped around and pinned into a bun. LSN has one big twist in her bang area, off to the side. The style took about 30-40 minutes. Cantu Curl Activator was applied to her hair beforehand. Are you going to try this hairstyle on your little natural(s)? Rubber Band Twist and Cornrow Updo

1BlessedNatural: Rubber Band Twist and Cornrow Updo Hey, my blessed naturals, I haven't forgotten about you all! Because I've been super bored with my natural hair for the past couple of weeks, I had to switch it up a bit. Yesterday, I did the rubber band twist and cornrow (cornbraid) updo. If you're looking for a protective style, you might want to try this one.   1BlessedNatural: the back of rubber band twist and cornrow updo Style Details  The rubber band twist and cornrow style was done on dry stretched hair. I used my usual products for styling: Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion and 100%  coconut oil. I cornrowed the front and back. When I finished cornrowing the hair to the scalp, I used a black rubber band to secure the section before twisting it. Some sections were divided into two twists if it was too thick. If you plan to try this style, remember to not cornrow your hair tight. You want to avoid traction alopecia. The idea is to make your br...

Hair Update: Seborrheic Dermatitis, Hair Growth, etc.

Hair Update: Seborrheic Dermatitis, Hair Growth, etc. Hi, my blessed naturals! I hope you all are having a great Saturday. Last month, I told you I was using the Generic Brand for Derma-Smoothe/FS for Seborrheic Dermatitis. I also started Ciclopirox shampoo (by prescription) which is used to treat Seborrheic Dermatitis. Thank God, the oil and shampoo have greatly improved the condition of my scalp. It does not itch as much as it did before the treatments. I've been keeping my hair in the puff with front flat twists style . I washed my hair yesterday and banded it. This morning, I removed the bands and took the picture above. My hair is healthy and growing, thank God! Some of you may remember Briana T's feature . I saw her today, and her fro is huge and beautiful! Good job, Bri! Please check her out if you haven't already! 1BlessedNatural's hair stretched How are you doing with your natural hair?   Don't forget to ENTER to WIN a book b...

Father Doing Daughter's Hair Exclusive!

father doing his daughter's hair (Photo courtesy of Antonio "Mr. Passion" Starks) I was scrolling down my Facebook News Feed, when I saw the photo (posted by Antonio "Mr. Passion" Starks) above. The photo speaks volumes about all of the great fathers in the world. One of those things is that some fathers do style their daughter's hair! I decided to ask Mr. Starks some questions about his experiences with doing his daughter's hair.  1BN How old is your daughter? AS:   My daughter just turned 10. 1BN: What made you want to style her hair? AS: I wanted to learn to style my daughter's hair because, as a single father it is part of my duty to teach and ensure that her appearance is always neat to include her hair. 1BN: How did you learn to style her hair? AS: When it comes to styling her hair, somethings like braiding I learned through trial and error with my sisters. I was the oldest of five and my mother was a single parent that had to...

Banded Hair as a Style Tutorial

The back of my banded hairstyle. Happy Wednesday everyone! I've done several posts about banding my hair to stretch it without heat. If you've read some of my previous posts, you may have read that I often band my hair at bedtime and remove the bands in the morning. The other night, I wondered about keeping the bands in my hair. So, I created a style where I could band the back section of my hair and keep it for a style.  Talk about shrinkage! 1. I parted a small side part in the bang section of my hair, creating two rectangular sections from the bang down to each ear.  2. I flat twisted the front section, and then pinned (with hair pins) the twists into little rolls.   3.After banding the back section, I put the two sections together (crossing each other), and then I secured the sections with hair pins.  4. Add a pretty little hair clip :-) 5. Add pretty earrings :-) Are you going to try a ...

Mini Braids Style Challenge: Updo with Headband Style # 2

Happy Thursday everyone!  Yesterday, I said I was going to fore-go the headbands, but I ended up wearing one today lol. The good thing is the material of the headband is very soft, and it doesn't pull my edges. Last night, I applied Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie to my mini braids (no extensions) and installed Cold Wave Rod Curlers for a rod set.  This morning, I removed the rollers and pinned my hair up (using hair pins). The back didn't look too fancy lol, but it was fine for me. Before I did the updo, I tried to style my braids by leaving them a loose, but it was really not working lol. The braids still looked sparse. That's what happens when you install small braids in fine hair. I figured the curls would make a difference... Ha! I was wrong. It was a natural hair disaster, lol. So, I went along with updo! Thank God for hair pins! Have you ever had a natural hair disaster? What style did you try?

Banded and Pinned Natural Hair

It's been almost two weeks since I've washed my hair. I've cowashed it 2 or 3 times, but I haven't used my Castile soap mixture . My hair has been really dirty because of the pollen, lint, and everything else floating in the air lol. Last night, I banded my hair after washing and conditioning it. I wanted to sleep with my hair banded, so I used Bobby pins to pin the sections towards the back. It's also a great method to get your hair straighter than you would if you were to just band your hair. I'm not sure of the style that I want yet, buut, I think it will be easier to keep my hair cleaner when it's stretched, than when it's curly. If I need to apply a moisturizer and run a comb through, I will hit less tangles. Are you doing your hair today?

Day 2: Roller Set with No Heat Style

Hey everyone! Last night I put my hair in pin curls before I went to sleep. This morning, I took them out and applied Coconut Oil to my hair. I grabbed two sections in the back, twisted them upward and pinned them. My curls have softened up. Tonight, I might try to comb out my curls a little and wrap it or pin curl them again. I'm loving these curls :-)  It's weird because this is the straightest that my hair has been since I have gone natural.

Election Day Hair Update: Big Puff

Happy Election Day everyone! By the end of today, I hope that everyone will have voted for the next president of the United States! In hair news, I've been wearing mini twists for the past two weeks. I wore it in a puff with a headband today. This past weekend, I took them out, washed, deep conditioned, moisturized, sealed, and stretched my hair. I tried the Milk Protein & Olive Oil Really Deep Conditioning Treatment , and   I will be doing a review in another post. The cold snap has caused my hair to be very dry. So, I might start using Shea Butter mixed with oil as a sealant after applying a moisturizer.  What natural hairstyle are you wearing today?

Mini-Twist, Twist-Out

Happy Friday everyone! Today I took out my mini-twists. Here is a picture of my twist out (for JenJen). I applied Mega Care Vitamin E oil to my twists before unraveling them. The whole process took about 45 minutes. I had to thoroughly check my hair to make sure that I had taken them all out. Otherwise, detangling will be even more of a challenge lol

Another Simple Fro Style

I've been too tired to pineapple my hair. Last night, I moisturized my hair with Olive Oil and Shea Butter and slept with a satin bonnet on. In the morning, I parted the front of my hair and placed the clips on both sides. I bought a carton of about 8 clips for &$1.00 at one of the dollar stores.

Two Strand Twist Knot TWA Style

This style was inspired by one of Lauryn Hill's natural hair styles where she has twists twisted all over her hair. I am not quite sure how she did it, but the above picture is my attempt. I was going to twist my whole head, but I decided to just do the front. I may attempt to twist my whole hair when it get longer. So, here is how I achieved this look... I created 3 rows of two strand twists at the front of my hair, 2 rows on the sides I  formed the designs with my two strand twists by gathering them into three sections... 1 on the top, and 1 section on each side of my head. I grabbed the twists and connected them. Then I twirled them around like a bantu knot and secured them with hair pins. I planned on doing a twist out in the back, but ran out of time. I may do it next time.
