Natural Hair Update: Curls, Twists, and Length

Happy Tuesday everyone! In my last hair article, " Natural Hair Fatigue " I told you all I was going to do another roller set . I usually use the Foam Wrap Lotion.,water, and Coconut Oil by Motions to set my curls. This time, I tried the Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion , water, and Coconut Oil. The curls that dried thoroughly were fine, but the others dropped. If you decide to use the Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion for a roller set, be sure to allow extra time for your hair to dry. It takes a little longer than when you use the Foam Wrap Lotion. I ended up finger combing all the curls out and doing a puff style. I had little tiny curly throughout my hair from the "roller set gone wrong" lol.  small coils that remained in my hair after the roller set This weekend, I installed mini twists in my hair. I banded my hair to stretch it. It's been a few months since I've done it. This time, my hair looked like it grew another inch and a half. Because my hair w...

Natural Hair Puff as Low Manipulation Hairstyle

Puff with flat twists: low manipulation style choice by 1BlessedNatural Hey everyone,  I've had a real breakthrough in the last couple of days in my battle over protein overload. Tomorrow, I will be giving you all an update on some products that I have used to get my hair back in shape. Thank God!  Tonight, I wanted to talk about  my experience using natural hair, puff styles as low manipulation hairstyles.  Low manipulation hairstyles consist of any styles that will help minimize the amount of styling done to your hair. Basically, they help you keep your hands out of your hair, lol. Some naturalistas may consider styles like wash-n-go's, roller sets, twist-outs, braid outs, and buns as low manipulation styles. I have been using puff styles as my low manipulation style. At the beginning of the week, I usually braid or twist the front of my hair. I put the back in medium-sized twists. The next day, I put my hair in a puff.  I usually keep m...

Day 3: NO Heat Rollerset Comb Out After Pin Curls

Roller set hair after combing it out and pin curls The picture above is the result of the pin curls that I installed last night. Although I am happy with the appearance of my hair, I do not like the crunchiness from the setting lotion. I will be co-washing my hair tonight. removing the pin curls Have you experienced crunchiness after doing a roller set?

Day 2: Roller Set with NO Heat (Continued)

My roller set hair after combing it out Happy Thursday! Last night, I attempted to comb my hair after applying Coconut Oil. Bad idea! My hair was still a bit crunchy from the setting lotion. Also, my curls were very tight, so it placed stress on my ends. I wrapped my hair, but I decided to take it out. Next time, I will try combing and wrapping my hair when I use the big rollers.

Day 2: Roller Set with No Heat Style

Hey everyone! Last night I put my hair in pin curls before I went to sleep. This morning, I took them out and applied Coconut Oil to my hair. I grabbed two sections in the back, twisted them upward and pinned them. My curls have softened up. Tonight, I might try to comb out my curls a little and wrap it or pin curl them again. I'm loving these curls :-)  It's weird because this is the straightest that my hair has been since I have gone natural.

Roller Set With NO HEAT: Success

No heat roller set...air dried,  8 hours after removing rollers Hey everyone! If you have been reading my last posts, then you know that I have been fighting the urge to use direct heat on my hair. The first time I tried a roller set without heat, my hair came out ok. But, the humidity made my hair look like cotton balls lol. Plus, my curls did not come out as smooth as I would have liked them. This time was a different story. Thank God because I would have been looking a mess lol. The website called The Long Healthy Hair Advisor helped me tremendously!   Before You Start, Do a Test Before I washed my hair, I  performed a test on a small section of hair at the nape of my neck. I tried rolling the turquoise magnetic rollers using setting lotion and water. Then I tried the purple rollers. I allowed the section to dry overnight. My results were good. Items Needed  Rat tail comb Leave-in conditioner (I used Carol's Daughter's Hair Milk Le...

21 Months Natural Hair: Update

Happy Tuesday everyone, Yesterday was my 21 months hairanniversary! The funny thing is that I would probably have forgotten if it wasn't for Naturali-Chik posting hers lol. I haven't been posting much about my hair because I haven't been doing anything new. Yesterday, I washed, deep conditioned, and installed two-strand twisted pin curls. This morning I took them out for a twist out. But, the humidity made my little waves disappear lol. Yesterday, I was looking in my product collection for a shampoo and pulled out the Revitalizing Shampoo by Finesse. The bottle of shampoo is at least 6 years old lol. It was one of those products that you think is not for your hair after you buy it. This time I was wrong :-) It worked just fine. My hair was super dirty. As for the condition of my hair... It is pretty healthy, thank God. Two weeks ago I trimmed my ends while my hair was in mini twists. I only clipped about 1/4-1/2 inch off (which was not a lot).  I clip my ends every...
