Natural Hair: Items to Pack for Vacation

Since the weather is finally breaking, many of you may be planning to go away on vacation. The question is what natural hair items do you pack? As a natural, you may be tempted to pack everything. So, I have some tips that may help you get your natural hair vacation bag together. Moisturizer and Sealant In order to determine the items you need for your hair during vacation, it's important to distinguish needs vs. wants. If your hair thrives on moisture, then you need to pack a moisturizer and a sealant. You can chose a product or make your own product. One of my personal favorites is the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. If you would like to save space, time, and money, you can fill a small spray bottle with water and an essential oil. You can purchase the small water bottles at stores like Dealz for $1.00.   Shampoo & Conditioner (Optional) If you are planning to wash you hair during your vacation, grab your favorite cleanser, cond...

Hair Update: Tea Tree Oil Treatment and Cleansing

If you saw my last post, then you saw the length check of the back of my hair. I've finally found a hair regimen that works for my hair. I learned so many new things about my hair, and I'm still learning :-)  Castile Soap & Tea Tree Oil You all may know I don't like to use shampoo often to cleanse my hair. I like to use my Castile Soap mixture. Recently, I've added Tea Tree Oil to the soap to treat dandruff. I originally discussed using the oil nightly, but I have not adjusted to the smell of 100% pure Tea Tree Oil. As a result, I've opted to use it in my cleanser when I wash my hair every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. I apply the Castile soap mixture (with Tea Tree Oil ) to my hair and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes, then I rinse it out. My scalp has been a lot cleaner.  This past week, I decided to shampoo my hair for the first time in 1-2 months. My hair was really dry. Since I have been moisturizing and sealing my hair every night, my hair has been he...

Natural Hair Product Review: Avalon Organics Strengthening Peppermint

Product: Avalon Organics Strengthening Peppermint Place: Whole Foods Price: around $8.00 First Five Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Aqua (Water), Decyl Glucoside, Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Coco-Glucoside, Sorbitol... I usually don't like to do shampoo reviews, but I got this one by mistake. So, I figured, "Why not?" Lately, I have been interested in using Peppermint Oil products. Even though I didn't intend to buy this shampoo, I actually enjoy the peppermint fragrance . The Peppermint ingredient was located further down, on the list of ingredients. If you are going to use this product and want to get the most for your money, use it sparingly. Wash your hair in 4 sections; use about 2 quarter sizes for each section. I tend to be heavy handed with products, but that is changing :-) This product does contain Sodium Coco-Sulfate vs. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate , but it doesn't leave my hair dried out like most sulfate(Sodium Lauryl shampoos). Hair Update: Changing My Regimen

Hey everyone! I have been adjusting to the shorter length of my hair. I also like the fact that I can do things a little differently and apply new things that I've learned.  Shampoo Less  I have decided to stop using shampoo as often as I normally would. Because shampoos strip your hair of moisture, I have decided to use my Castille soap mixture or co-wash as an alternative. This is good for me especially because my hair gets super dry in the winter. I have to moisturize and seal my hair twice a day. 2nd day two-strand, pin curl twist-out Styling   I am a big fan of trying different styles, but I like to give myself and hair a break sometimes. Lately, I've been alternating between two-strand twist pin curls and twist-outs. This way I can give myself a break every other day or so, but still have fun styling my hair.  Before I cut my hair, I loved to do styles on freshly washed hair. Now, I don't mind doing different styles at any time. ...

21 Months Natural Hair: Update

Happy Tuesday everyone, Yesterday was my 21 months hairanniversary! The funny thing is that I would probably have forgotten if it wasn't for Naturali-Chik posting hers lol. I haven't been posting much about my hair because I haven't been doing anything new. Yesterday, I washed, deep conditioned, and installed two-strand twisted pin curls. This morning I took them out for a twist out. But, the humidity made my little waves disappear lol. Yesterday, I was looking in my product collection for a shampoo and pulled out the Revitalizing Shampoo by Finesse. The bottle of shampoo is at least 6 years old lol. It was one of those products that you think is not for your hair after you buy it. This time I was wrong :-) It worked just fine. My hair was super dirty. As for the condition of my hair... It is pretty healthy, thank God. Two weeks ago I trimmed my ends while my hair was in mini twists. I only clipped about 1/4-1/2 inch off (which was not a lot).  I clip my ends every...

Jojoba/Tea Tree Oil Pre-poo and Two Strand Twists

Last week, I applied Tea Tree Oil (for my dandruff) and Jojoba Oil to my hair as a pre-poo. I wore a plastic cap for about 20 minutes before shampooing my hair. This wash day was the first time that I tried removing shed hair with my fingers, while my hair was dry.  I used a dandruff shampoo and regular shampoo to cleanse my hair and scalp lol. For some reason, my scalp does not get clean easily, especially after adding a conditioner. I also have to be sure that I rub my edges with the shampoo. If not, I will end up with build-up after shampooing my hair. After applying Carol's Daughter Hair Milk and Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion, I banded my hair on the first day. The next day, I installed two-strand twists.
