Natural Hair Rundown: Mini Twists, Puff, and New Favorite Conditioner

1BlessedNatural: Natural Hair Update, Mini Twists, Puff, and New Favorite Conditioner Hey, my blessed naturals! It feels like it's been forever since I've given you all an update on my hair. If you follow me on Instagram , it hasn't been quite so long (smile). Here's a rundown of my natural hairstyles and maintenance for this month: Friday, January 6, 2017: Mini Twists  January 6, 2017: I decided to do mini twists because I was tired of doing my hair. Plus, I needed to check the health of my ends. They took me 5-6 hours to complete. I clipped my ends the next day. I only needed to remove 1/2 inch. Friday, January 6, 2017: Pin curled mini twists. Afterward, I pin curled my twists (for curls), but they didn't come out right the next morning. They were all spaced out. The only time my pin curled twists come out right is when I make the twists really small. So, they're full . If not, forget it! LOL This is my new fave co...

Coiled Edges: Rubber Band Cornrow Twist and Puff Style with Flower Clip

1BlessedNatural - Coiled Edges: Rubber Band Cornrow Twists and Puff Style with Flower Clip Happy Memorial Day, my blessed naturals! Thank you to all of you who have served in the armed forces. Yesterday, I had to find a natural style fast! My hair was in bands from the night before. I side-parted my hair, left out my edges, and created 4 curvy cornrow twists from my hairline going back towards my crown area, and 2 going straight down on the side . They were secured with rubber bands, and my edges were finger coiled again. I added a flower clip for decoration. If you’re going to try this style, I would suggest not making your rubber bands too tight. After my hair was cornrowed, I put the bands about one inch from my scalp before twisting each section. 1BlessedNatural: right side of rubber band twist and puff style with flower clip 1BlessedNatural: left side What style are you rocking this Memorial Day? Natural Hairstyle: Curvy Twists with Puff

1BlessedNatural - Natural Hairstyle: Curvy Twists with Puff  Happy Tuesday, my blessed naturals, I hope you all had a great weekend. Saturday night, I removed the bands from my hair and created some curvy flat twists in the front of my head with a side part. I was making it up as I went along. Can’t you tell? Lol. ECO Style r gel was used around my edges. Bobby pins and hair pins were used to secure the twists. The rest of my hair was put into a puff, and I added a decorative clip to the band around it. If you read my last post about pin curling my mini twists, then you know I trimmed my ends. I’ve said this before, but I just love the way my hair feels after removing damaged or weathered ends. It feels super soft and stays moisturized longer. Here’s some before and after pics of Saturday’s style: 1BlessedNatural: Making the curvy flat twists 1BlessedNatural: Side flat twist- Yes... making it up as I went a long lol 1BlessedNatural: All done...

1BN Kids: Big Sister Natural's Impromptu Puff

1BlessedNatural: Big Sister Natural's Impromptu Puff Happy Tuesday, my blessed naturals, Yesterday, Big Sister Natural went to school with a ponytail and cornrowed edges and came home with a puff and cornrowed edges lol. I thought it was the cutest thing. She said as soon as she sat outside, she could feel her hair drawing up from the humidity. Too cool! I think she was in shock though! Because I didn't get a chance to take a before picture, I'm including one from last year. This way, you can get an idea of how her ponytail looked. I love the way her mom does the cornrows around the perimeter of her head. January 2015 - Big Sister Natural's ponytail Have you ever left the house with your natural hair one way, and then the rain/humidity caused it to do something else? 1BN Contributor: Does Being 'Wedding Day Pretty' Mean Ditching Natural Hair?

Kimberly J. Childs' rocking a beautiful puff for her wedding day (photo cred: Kimberly J. Childs) Kimberly J. Childs Just had an awesome conversation with one of my besties, a gorgeous woman with locs to die, kill and steal for! She told me about a talk she had with an engaged woman, also with beautiful locs. My friend asked her,  “How do you plan to do your hair for the wedding?” The woman replied, “I'm cutting my locs off, I want to be pretty that day!” Well ladies and gents, here it is. This woman has grown out beautiful locs for years, only to chop them off, to be pretty. Why? Her locs do not meet the standard of “wedding day pretty”, apparently. Hearing this truly made my soul sad. I also nearly dropped my drink! So, after gathering my thoughts, and grasping my margarita, I thought: 1. Have you felt unpretty all of these years? 2. Why did you go natural in the first place, if your highest standard of pretty requires a weave or relaxer? 3. The Sis...

End of the Summer Natural Hair Update

1BlessedNatural: End of  the Summer Natural Hair Update Happy Saturday, my blessed naturals! I hope you all are having a great evening. I wanted to share with you all a couple of pictures of my puff and flat twist style decorated with one of my December flower accessories. If you look at my collar, you can see dots of oil on it smh #naturalgirlproblems, lol. I'm not sure how the oil got on my collar. But, I'll be using Dawn dish detergent to treat the spots before washing. My hair has been loving the humid weather. I've been able to moisturize my hair at night with water and coconut oil. I'm looking forward to the cooler weather, because I plan to do some mini twist protective styling.  Front: puff with flat twists What have you been doing with your natural hair? Election Day Hair: Puff with Cornrows

Happy Tuesday, my blessed naturals, Today was Election Day in New Jersey. Sunday, I washed my hair, but I didn't get a chance to deep condition it.  As a result, my hair was very dry. Last night, I co-washed my hair, and then deep conditioned it. Afterwards, I banded the back of my hair and cornrowed the front of it. I created a side part and little cornrows going down both sides of my head, towards my ears. This morning, I used a thin elastic hair tie to gather my hair into a puff. I used a wide black stretchy band as decoration. This method works because my hair has grown out a lot. The thin band allows me to make a neat and tight, but not too tight puff.   Products from Amazon that were used for this style: What natural hairstyle did you wear today? Natural Hair Laziness

pre-poo: I applied tea tree oil to my scalp, then I sprayed water mixed with peppermint oil on my hair.  Happy Sunday, my blessed naturals! I hope you all are having a great weekend. I know some of you have been wondering what is going on with my hair. The truth is that not much is going on, lol. I haven't really been styling my hair in any fancy styles. I've only been rocking my hair in my usual puff and flat twist hairstyle. My hair has been frizzy also. I've noticed that when I wear my hair in a puff hairstyle for a long period of time and I only use my hands to neaten the puff, my hair starts to look frizzy if I keep the style in for too many days at a time. Since I've been walking around with my hair looking like a fuzzy bear, lol ( at least, to my eyes), I decided to install some two-strand twists this weekend. I am sitting under a heating cap while I type. The conditioner has been on my hair for more than an hour. I will detangle, rinse, and band ...

Partial Protective Styling

Example of partial protective styling: cornrows in the front (hair prepped for puff in back) Hi everyone, As many of you know, protective styling is a great way to protect your strands and give yourself a break from every day styling. However, many of us may get antsy and still want to style our hair after a short period of time. This is where partial protective styling comes in. Partial protective styling is when you put part of your hair into a protective style. I have been using this method often during the last 2+ years of me being natural. Many of you may know that I have been cornrowing the front of my hair and putting the back in a puff. Because my hair is fine, my edges are really fragile. Partial protective styling allows me to leave the front of my hair alone to grow. At night, I two-strand twist, pin curl the back or put it in a bun to be taken out the next morning for a puff. Do you use partial protective styling? Don't forget to enter the 1BlessedNa...

Little Girl Videobombs Newscast

Happy Friday everyone! This week, an NBC Chicago newscast featuring reporter, Mary Ann Ahern being videobombed by a cute little girl dancing, went viral. Several media outlets have reported that the girl in the video's name is Janiyah Rush, who was said to be near the school on that day in June. Reporter, Mary Ann Ahern who was doing a June report on schools closing in the area, had a good laugh and tweeted: The little girl in the video appears to be wearing a puff too :-) Check out the video! Tutorial: Puff Transformed Into Formal Updo

Last time, I showed you all my puff with the turquoise flower . I decided to try transforming the style into a more formal updo.  1.Put your hair in a puff.  2. Grab medium-sized sections of hair inside the puff. Optional: Moisturize and seal(with an oil) each section. 3. Two-strand twist each section. 5. Roll the twist up towards the middle of the puff. Use hair pins to keep the twist in place.   6. When you are finished, you should have a small, open space in the middle of the rolled twists.  You can add a flower clip or any hair accessory you'd like :-) This style is great to wear for the office, weddings, or any other formal occasion/place. For weddings, you can add pearled hair pins to the twists themselves. What updo styles do you like to wear?
