Natural Hair Topic: 6 Tips to Remember When Trimming Natural Hair

1BlessedNatural: 6 Natural Hair Topic: Tips to Remember When Trimming Natural Hair Hey, my blessed naturals, I hope you all had a great Valentine's Day weekend! Today, my sister C had a little natural hair accident--I think. Although she usually wears protective styles, her ends were still a bit raggedy and needed to be trimmed. She decided to use kitchen shears to trim them off, and Thank God, I caught her! She was pulling down on a section of hair in the front of her head, ready to cut. I gave her my hair shears to use. She ended up unnecessarily cutting 2 inches or more in front of her head and was ready to do her whole head the same way. Let's just say that now she has a bang, LOL. Here are some tips to remember when trimming your natural hair: 1. Use sharp hair shears or scissors. Regular scissors or the ones in your kitchen are not sharp enough to use on your natural hair. They can leave your ends jagged and cause them to split even more. 2. Trim yo...

After Heat Damage and Trim

After washing and banding my hair Hey everyone, If you read my last couple of posts, then you know that I had heat damage because, I flat ironed my hair. I cut 2 1/2-3 inches of hair off. I was upset at first, but I'm happy with my decision now. I know how to grow out my hair and keep it healthy. I'm going to continue to follow that path and have fun along the way!

21 Months Natural Hair: Update

Happy Tuesday everyone, Yesterday was my 21 months hairanniversary! The funny thing is that I would probably have forgotten if it wasn't for Naturali-Chik posting hers lol. I haven't been posting much about my hair because I haven't been doing anything new. Yesterday, I washed, deep conditioned, and installed two-strand twisted pin curls. This morning I took them out for a twist out. But, the humidity made my little waves disappear lol. Yesterday, I was looking in my product collection for a shampoo and pulled out the Revitalizing Shampoo by Finesse. The bottle of shampoo is at least 6 years old lol. It was one of those products that you think is not for your hair after you buy it. This time I was wrong :-) It worked just fine. My hair was super dirty. As for the condition of my hair... It is pretty healthy, thank God. Two weeks ago I trimmed my ends while my hair was in mini twists. I only clipped about 1/4-1/2 inch off (which was not a lot).  I clip my ends every...

More Pics of My Hair After My Trim...

Happy Easter everyone, Today is about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, and not about the "Easter bunny"... I'm just saying. Here are more pictures of my hair after trimming...   I trimmed less than a 1/2 inch in most areas. There was one particular area at the top in which I trimmed almost an inch off. In these pictures, I did a kind of length check. But, I am not a fan of performing them often. I have done research on the suggested number of times that you should trim your hair in a year. Some places said once a year, twice a year, and every 4 months. However, the consensus was that you should trim your hair as needed. It depends on how well you treat your hair. You must moisturize and seal your hair (especially the ends) at least once a day.  Moisturizing your hair coupled with deep conditioning and trims are the way to go. It is also best to sleep on a satin pillow case. You also have the option of covering your hair with a satin bonnet at nigh...

I've Found a Trimming Method...

next day after trim Happy Good Friday everyone! The Lord is good :-) If you have reay my previous posts, then you know that it was time for me to trim the ends of my hair. I've tried trimming my hair while it was wet. However, I cut off more than I needed.  Hair Banding to Prepare for Trim   This time, I stretched my hair using the banding technique. Then I took each section out of the band (while it was a bit damp) and divided them into smaller sections. I applied the Shea Butter & Green Tea Moisturizer by Softsheen Carson and Coconut Oil to the section, and trimmed a small amount of hair off the ends. Afterwards, I applied a small amount of Coconut Oil to each section and re-banded my hair. Because my ends were not split, I did not need to trim off much. I had a lot of single strand knots (ssk) and tangles that signaled a much needed trim. One Night Later... My hair was so soft that it straightened out like I had blown it out. I also think tha...

My Twist Out & Thoughts of a Trim

Happy Tuesday everyone! Here is another two-strand twist out for Jenn :-) I kept these twists in for about a week and 1/2. My hair kept knotting up at the ends when I was unraveling them. I think it is because I did not use the Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise before installing my twists. The ORSHM is the best conditioner that I have found for my hair. I also think that it is time to trim the ends of my hair. The last time that I did a trim was in November. I trimmed my hair while it was wet.  As a result, I trimmed than I wanted. This time, I am going to use the banding technique to stretch my hair, and then trim my hair. Some people use the search and destroy method in which you snip the damaged ends that you find. Others use the dusting method where you trim your ends while in twists. However, I would rather trim my ends and know that almost every piece of hair is included in my trim :-)... just for my peace of mind. What method do you use to trim your end...
