Apple Cider Vinegar: pH Balance and Seborrheic Dermatitis

1BlessedNatural: Apple Cider Vinegar: PH Balance and Seborrheic Dermatitis Happy Thursday, my blessed naturals! Through my 3-year natural hair journey, I've heard a lot of things about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) being beneficial for natural hair. Some of the things include it being a great frizz controller and conditioner, but I've never tried it until now.  Many of you may be aware that I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis. Although I've had the condition for my whole life, my scalp itchiness and irritation have gotten worse within the last 2 years. I've been using a prescription shampoo and oil to control it. In the past, I've tried natural remedies like tea tree oil to treat the condition naturally, but to no avail. I have to give a shout out to the lovely ladies at +Enjoyable Inspiration  for suggesting that I try doing an ACV/Beer Rinse infused with tea tree and geranium oil to treat the inflammation of my scalp, but I only did the ACV rinse. Update on Seborrheic Dermatitis: Generic Brand for Derma-Smoothe/ FS

"Update on Seborrheic Dermatitis: Derma-Smoothe/FS" *Correction 7/23/2014- The product that I tried was Fluocinolone Acetonide Topical Oil which is the g eneric version of Derma-Smoothe F/S. Happy Wednesday, my blessed naturals! Back in December of last year, I made you all aware that I was battling Seborrheic Dermatitis . Seborrheic Dermatitis is a chronic scalp condition where your scalp produces a large amount of natural oil (sebum). As a result, big wax-like flakes or dandruff form. It can cause your scalp to be red and itchy. I've tried several natural remedies including Tea-Tree Oil, Tea-Tree Oil shampoos, oils, and regular honey. My doctor prescribed Derma-Smooth/FS Fluocinolone Acetonide Topical Oil along with a shampoo and foam. This weekend, I finally got a chance to try the Derma-Smooth/FS Scalp Oil Fluocinolone Acetonide Topical Oil . I applied a thin layer to my scalp, and then put on a plastic cap. I left the oil on my scalp for a littl...

Update: Battling Seborrheic Dermatitis and Protein Overload

Hi everyone, I have been making some progress in my protein overload and Seborrheic Dermatitis plight. Thank God! Thank you all for all of your suggestions on combating both conditions. I am on week 2 of a dermatologist prescribed foam. The dermatologist also prescribed a shampoo and oil, but I wanted to try some natural remedies first. I found that some items that may have been good to treat Seborrheic Dermatitis were not good to use on my hair due to the protein overload and vice versa. Last week, I applied Castor Oil to my scalp (especially on the healing areas), and it lessened the itching. Because it is a thick oil, I usually use it as pre-poo. I tried using it on my hair as a sealant, but it was too greasy. It left my hair dry underneath the coating. Some articles that I have read stated that Castor Oil has protein in it. If this is true, then it is not good for my protein overload recovery, lol. My hair is a little drier than it was previously, SMH. I will stick to my ...

Oiling My Scalp

Happy Tuesday everyone! If you've read my past posts, then you know I have issues with dry scalp. For the past several months, I have been using Tea Tree Oil in my Castile soap mixture, and it's helped a lot. Recently, my scalp started getting dry again. I started using Olive Oil in a squeeze bottle to oil my scalp, and  I love it! After I wash my hair, I part my hair into big sections. I apply a moisturizer and Coconut oil (to seal my ends). Then I part the big sections into smaller sections and allow a little of the Olive oil to flow onto my scalp. You have to be careful because you can end up with greasy hair. As far as my hair goes, it is usually still a little damp when I apply the oil to my scalp. By the time my hair dries, a lot of the oil has absorbed into my hair and scalp. I purchased this squeeze bottle as part a travel pack of bottles at a dollar store. What's is your favorite kind of oil(s) to use on your hair and scalp?

Hair Update: Tea Tree Oil Treatment and Cleansing

If you saw my last post, then you saw the length check of the back of my hair. I've finally found a hair regimen that works for my hair. I learned so many new things about my hair, and I'm still learning :-)  Castile Soap & Tea Tree Oil You all may know I don't like to use shampoo often to cleanse my hair. I like to use my Castile Soap mixture. Recently, I've added Tea Tree Oil to the soap to treat dandruff. I originally discussed using the oil nightly, but I have not adjusted to the smell of 100% pure Tea Tree Oil. As a result, I've opted to use it in my cleanser when I wash my hair every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. I apply the Castile soap mixture (with Tea Tree Oil ) to my hair and let it sit for about 3-5 minutes, then I rinse it out. My scalp has been a lot cleaner.  This past week, I decided to shampoo my hair for the first time in 1-2 months. My hair was really dry. Since I have been moisturizing and sealing my hair every night, my hair has been he...
