Stretched Braid-Out

Stretched Braid-Out Happy Monday, my blessed naturals! Saturday, I wore my hair in a stretched braid out. Friday night, I parted my stretched hair into 4 big sections. Then, I applied a small amount of the Curls Unleashed Leave-In Conditioner and sealed with my Olive and Lavender Oil mixture. I originally planned to use the Cantu Curl Activator and Coconut Oil, but I found that I was getting a lot of visible build-up after few uses. After applying the products, I would start getting white flakes. The combination of Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion and Coconut Oil works the best for my hair. The next morning, my hair was stretched, but a bit dry. I have found that Coconut Oil is the best sealant I have tried for my hair. Update: Battling Seborrheic Dermatitis and Protein Overload

Hi everyone, I have been making some progress in my protein overload and Seborrheic Dermatitis plight. Thank God! Thank you all for all of your suggestions on combating both conditions. I am on week 2 of a dermatologist prescribed foam. The dermatologist also prescribed a shampoo and oil, but I wanted to try some natural remedies first. I found that some items that may have been good to treat Seborrheic Dermatitis were not good to use on my hair due to the protein overload and vice versa. Last week, I applied Castor Oil to my scalp (especially on the healing areas), and it lessened the itching. Because it is a thick oil, I usually use it as pre-poo. I tried using it on my hair as a sealant, but it was too greasy. It left my hair dry underneath the coating. Some articles that I have read stated that Castor Oil has protein in it. If this is true, then it is not good for my protein overload recovery, lol. My hair is a little drier than it was previously, SMH. I will stick to my ...

Recovering from Protein Overload (Part 3)

mini two-strand twists  by 1BlessedNatural Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend. I have been wearing my two strand twists in a beaded updo . I moisturize and seal my hair every morning and night. I put the products in my hands and pat them on the outside of my updo. I've been using the Kinky-Curly Knot Today leave-in conditioner and Olive Oil mixed with Lavender Oil. My hair is continuing to look and feel more like normal every day, thank God. My ends are starting to curl up instead of sticking straight out . The twists have been good because it helps me to keep my hands out of it. It also holds moisture longer because more of the strands are together. Today, I took my hair down and moisturized and sealed it. I will probably wear twists for the rest of the week. What protective style are you wearing?   Related Articles: My Experience Recovering from Protein Overload               ...

Recovering From Protein Overload (Part 2)

Cornrows with Two-Strand Twist, Pin Curl out style by 1BlessedNatural Happy Thursday everyone! If you've read my past few hair articles, then you know that my hair is recovering from protein overload . I was using the Roots of Nature, Shea Butter and Green Tea Moisturizer, Coconut Oil, and water mixed with Tea Tree Oil. However, my hair still seemed really dry and stiff. I slept with a plastic cap (a.k.a. baggying) 1 night last week. I also sat with the plastic cap on my head on and off for 2 days, but I didn't seem to be making much progress. This weekend, I washed my hair with my Castile soap mixture. Then I applied the Almond and Shea Butter Conditioner by Suave to my hair. The conditioner sat on my hair for 1 1/2 hours. This time included the 45 minutes in which I kept the heating cap on my head. Afterwards, I gently detangled my hair with the conditioner on it, and then washed it out. The front, right side of my hair felt like it was almost back to normal. ...

Pleasant Smelling Shea Butter Recipe

Happy Friday everyone, I have been making my own Shea Butter mixture slowly, over the past 2 months lol. I used Shea Butter when I had a T.W.A.. But, I haven't used it on my hair much, lately. I had a bunch of ingredients that I wanted to try to mix together, so I figured why not try a Shea Butter mixture. I have read many websites that have claimed that Shea Butter (by itself) is a good moisturizer for your hair. In my experience Shea Butter has only worked in sealing the moisture in my hair. If I applied Shea Butter to my hair, it would look shiny but would dry out and become brittle. So, I would say that Shea Butter is a good sealant. If you apply water or a moisturizer on your hair, and then apply the Shea Butter on top, you would get good results.  I used an 8oz container of raw Shea Butter mixed with Olive Oil for my mixture. Ingredients 1. Raw Shea Butter (6oz) 2. Olive Oil (1/4 cup) 3. Water (1 tablespoon) 4. Aloe Vera Juice (1 tablespoon) 5. Pep...
