Puff and 'Fro with Rubber Band Twist and Cornrow Headband

1BlessedNatural: Puff and Fro with Rubber Band Twist and Cornrow Headband Happy Sunday, my blessed naturals, A few days ago, I did small diagonal cornrows in the front of my head and twisted them to the ends. Then, I connected every two twists together using a rubber band to create a sort of headband. Bobby pins were used to tuck the hair under. I also added some loc jewelry . My edges look tight, but Eco Styler gel was used to smooth them. I slept with a scarf tied around my head overnight. The back section of hair was banded to stretch it out, and I wore it in a puff for the first day. The next day, I wore it in a 'fro. I ended up using a regular headband to keep my hair from flying all over the place LOL. Here are before and after pictures of the style: 1BlessedNatural: cornrowed twists (headband) with back banded to stretch 1BlessedNatural: Day 1 with rubber band twist and cornrowed headband with puff style 1...

Natural Hair Rundown: Mini Twists, Puff, and New Favorite Conditioner

1BlessedNatural: Natural Hair Update, Mini Twists, Puff, and New Favorite Conditioner Hey, my blessed naturals! It feels like it's been forever since I've given you all an update on my hair. If you follow me on Instagram , it hasn't been quite so long (smile). Here's a rundown of my natural hairstyles and maintenance for this month: Friday, January 6, 2017: Mini Twists  January 6, 2017: I decided to do mini twists because I was tired of doing my hair. Plus, I needed to check the health of my ends. They took me 5-6 hours to complete. I clipped my ends the next day. I only needed to remove 1/2 inch. Friday, January 6, 2017: Pin curled mini twists. Afterward, I pin curled my twists (for curls), but they didn't come out right the next morning. They were all spaced out. The only time my pin curled twists come out right is when I make the twists really small. So, they're full . If not, forget it! LOL This is my new fave co...

My Review of Glassesshop.com

1BlessedNatural: My Review of Glasseshop.com! Recently, Glassesshop.com sent me a pair of free glasses to review. As you may know, I did a review on them 2015, and I've been loving their site ever since! You can order prescription sunglasses and eyeglasses from them. Features One of the things I loved about Glassesshop.com from the beginning is you can upload a photo of yourself to the website and see how your glasses will look on you. I also love the fact that they have lots of cool glasses frames you can choose from. This time, I picked the Jersey Rectangle - blue prescription glasses. Let me tell you all a secret... I was rushing and did not read the fact that the glasses I chose were kids size. Womp womp! No one will ever know! LOL. The good thing is I can still pull off wearing them! Thank God! If you're looking through the site, please be sure to read the description fully. Don't be like me. LOL! You can track your order on the website by e...

Yara Shahidi Pays Homage to Sade in the Most Beautiful Way!

Yesterday, Black-ish star Yara Shahidi paid homage to singer Sade by reenacting one of her most iconic 1980-ish photos. Sade Adu stood in front of a camera with a light denim jacket and jeans on with her arms folded. One gold cuff bracelet hung on the then, 20-something singer's arm. Her braided ponytail hung down one side. Ms. Adu's beautiful freckles popped out from her cheeks. Red lipstick and gold earrings were worn. Fast forward to 2017! Yara Shahidi posted the photo of Sade and then herself dressed as her on Instagram. She captioned the singer's original photo as "The Queen #Sade". When the 16-year-old posted herself, she humbly captioned it as "homage". I love how she did the photo in her own way. Instead of wearing a large cuff bracelet like Sade, Shahidi opted for a smaller, gold cuff bracelet. There were a few other small differences. In all I thought the photo was super cute! I also love Sade's original photo because it was s...

Too Much Pressure to Snap Back Quickly After Having a Baby?

1BlessedNatural: Too Much Pressure to Snap Back Quickly After Having a Baby? (photo courtesy of  gizelleprosperita) Hey, my blessed naturals! Every time I hear of a celebrity having a baby, I'm pretty sure there is an invisible clock counting down from that time until they snap back. It's happened with celebrities like Angela Simmons , Teyana Taylor, and more, and I'm pretty sure Janet Jackson will be next. The headlines of many news stories are always about how celeb moms don't look like they had a baby just seconds after bringing a new life into the world. Here are my questions: Why is that THE goal? Where does the pressure to snap back quickly come from? Is it from fans, celebrities (themselves), both, or someone else? How does this standard affect moms and moms-to-be in general? Is the goal to have a baby but you have 10 seconds max to lose the baby weight or what? Thumbs down? [Please insert thinking and laughing hysterically emojis] I'm exaggeratin...

Chrisette Michele Explains Why She Wears Wigs

Yesterday, Chrisette Michele released a YouTube video explaining her love for her natural hair and why she wears wigs. In the funny and almost 7-minute video called "WIG VS. FRO", the singer answered many of her fan's burning questions about her hair and work. Not only does the "Rich Hipster" wear wigs because they can hide her cornrows when she is traveling, she also wears them to protect her natural hair from excessive styling during her tours and plays. The wigs are also worn for the singer and actress to become different characters. The "Unbreakable" songstress stars in a play by screenwriter Je'Caryous Johnson titled "Married but Single Too" alongside Carl Payne and Lisa Raye. She also portrays the character, Nina Mosely in the hit play "Love Jones The Musical" alongside Musiq, Marsha Ambrosius, and more. Chrisette Michele did a big chop during her tour for her album "Epiphany" about 7 years a...
