The 44-year-old actress explained her reason for creating the products. On Instagram, she said, "As a woman with textured hair, the search to find a brand that meets all of my needs has been impossible. That's why I created Flawless." In 2011, Union posted pictures on social media of her long natural hair straightened after removing a weave. The actress says she cared for her hair while keeping it in the protective style. Union, who plays "Mary Jane" stood in the mirror with her huge Afro while finding out that her stylist was canceling her appointment. After calling her niece to redo her sewn in weave, Mary Jane confessed that she was "terrified" to go to work without it because she thought people would think she wasn't beautiful.
