My Summer to Fall Natural Hair Regimen

Happy Wednesday, my blessed naturals! It's been almost 3 months since my second Big Chop , and I wanted to give you all my summer into fall natural hair regimen for daily and weekly maintenance. The pictures in this post are of my hair after applying products to it. Daily 1. Spritz with water and apply coconut oil   - Because it's still hot in the south, I can sometimes go 2 or 3 days before I need to do this.   2. Fluff my hair out with my fingers- Sometimes, I use a wide tooth comb to lift my hair at the roots and get rid of the parts.   3. Sleep with a satin bonnet or pillow case   Weekly 1. Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse- I mix 1 part ACV mixed with 2 parts water to treat my seborrheic dermatitis. After spraying the mixture on my scalp, I let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Sometimes, I will use a plastic cap. Then, I rinse it out and shampoo my hair.    2. Wash with any shampoo I have available - This usually includes a type...

Protective Styling Plans for the Rest of the Summer

1BlessedNatural: Protective Stylng Plans for the Rest of the Summer Happy Saturday, my blessed naturals! As you all may know, I've been cornrows and twists for the past 3 1/2 months with small breaks in between. Last night, I took my last set out (for awhile). Tomorrow, I plan to install some mini twists and wear them for the rest of the summer. I will redo them every 1 1/2 weeks. The pic above is of my hair while I was taking out the cornrows last. My hair has grown a lot, but some of my edges came out.  I try not to make the cornrows to tight, but my edges are fragile and don't play that! LOL. So, the mini twists will help because they don't don't put any stress on them. I will keep you all updated! What natural hairstyle(s) do you plan to wear for the rest of the summer?   Related Articles: New Video: Rubber Band and Cornrow and Twist Updo                              After Protecti...

Natural Hair in the Summer Months

I have been hearing many people say they do not want to go natural because of the summer months. Supernanny, Deborah Tillman also expressed the same concern in my interview with her. As a result, I started researching and thinking about the specific concerns of being natural in the summertime. Hopefully, this post will help some of you who are thinking about letting your roots show :-) Moisture Madness - During the summer months, we know the air can be hot, humid, and/ or dry at times. As a result, you may need to moisturize (with a moisturizer) and seal (using an oil) your hair a little more than normal, especially if you stay in direct sunlight. If it is humid you may need to moisturize your hair a little less. You also have the option of applying gels and other hair products that contain glycerin, because they will obtain moisture from the air. Your hair will stay moisturized for a longer period of time. No Sweat- With the increasing temperatures in the summer months,...
