Braids and Defined Braid-Out on Natural Hair

1BlessedNatural: Braids and Braid-Out Happy Monday, my blessed naturals! I hope you all are having a great evening. My hair has been really dry due to the cold temperatures. My plan was to keep my hair in braids as my protective style, but I forgot how braids can make my hair look sparse. So, I ended up removing them this morning for a defined braid-out. The products I used were the Curls Creme Brule Whipped Curl Cream and 100% Coconut Oil on wet hair. I put my hair in medium size braids and twisted the ends. Afterwards, I created two french braids, rolled the ends, and pinned them in the back. My hair was allowed to dry overnight. In the morning, I unraveled the braids and put on a headband. I plan to mini twist my hair this week to give it rest.  1BlessedNatural: after washing my hair...  1BlessedNatural: Braids or plaits  french braided in preparation for a braid-out What is your fall protective styling choice? ...

More Pictures of Linked Cornrows and Puff Style

Happy Monday my blessed naturals! Last week, I styled my hair in the " Linked Cornrows with Puff " style. I've redone the cornrows. They look a little more neater than the first ones. I like this style because it's simple. At night, I spritz my cornrows and scalp with Hollywood Beauty Tea Trea Oil mixed with water. The back section is moisturized, sealed, two-strand twisted (medium), and pin curled. Sometimes, I just pull the back section into a ponytail after moisturizing and sealing it.  In the morning, Coconut Oil is applied to the twists before they are unraveled. Today's humidity made my hair softer than it was this morning :-) What hairstyle are you rocking today? Don't forget to enter the 1BlessedNatural "End of the Summer" GIVEAWAY !

Mini Braids Style Challenge: Twisted Pin Curl Updo

Happy Sunday! The night before last, I did another updo. I grabbed sections of my hair and twisted them upward. Then I pin curled the sections and used hair pins to secure them. The few twists in the bang area were pinned to the side. I am already plotting on taking the braids out, and it's only been a week. I might do more mini twists . I like them better than mini braids.  I will keep you all updated!

Mini Braids Style Challenge: Updo with Headband Style # 2

Happy Thursday everyone!  Yesterday, I said I was going to fore-go the headbands, but I ended up wearing one today lol. The good thing is the material of the headband is very soft, and it doesn't pull my edges. Last night, I applied Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie to my mini braids (no extensions) and installed Cold Wave Rod Curlers for a rod set.  This morning, I removed the rollers and pinned my hair up (using hair pins). The back didn't look too fancy lol, but it was fine for me. Before I did the updo, I tried to style my braids by leaving them a loose, but it was really not working lol. The braids still looked sparse. That's what happens when you install small braids in fine hair. I figured the curls would make a difference... Ha! I was wrong. It was a natural hair disaster, lol. So, I went along with updo! Thank God for hair pins! Have you ever had a natural hair disaster? What style did you try?

Mini Braids Style Challenge: Bun with Headband Style #1

This is the first style for my mini braids . Please excuse my crooked headband lol. I've been wearing the bun with headband style for the last couple of days, but I want to avoid breakage from the friction of the headband. It's time to find a new style! I use bobby pins to pin down the shorter braids in my bang area. Also, June 3, 2013 made 27 months that I've been natural :-) Thank God for the journey!

Natural Hair and Negative Comments

Last night, I did a rod-set, but my hair was still wet this morning. I lost the bigger curls. But my little curls are popping :-) You're a natural. You've learned to love and celebrate the curls coming from your scalp, but guess what! Many people have not and might not ever get there. It's just like anything else. When you're natural, some people will feel the need to voice their negative opinions about your hair. Last month, I attended a family event wearing a puff with a spearmint green and white polka dot headband. One of my female family members walked up to me and told me my hair was getting out of control, and that I just didn't know what to do with it. I was completely caught off guard, in the beginning lol. I didn't say anything. I just looked at her. Another family member stepped in to make her aware that I had a hair blog which showcased several styles. However, my mouth stayed shut. I didn't feel the need to explain myself or my hair choice...

Sunday Church Hair: Stripe Headband on Two-Strand Twist Pin Curl Out

Here's my style for church today: Two-strand twist pin curl out. I kept the pin curls in for almost two days. I bought the headband from Family Dollar. I unwrapped the pin curls and applied Cantu Coconut Curling Cream and Jojoba oil to my ends. Then I unraveled the twists and separated the hair a bit. What style did you wear to church today?

Beaded Flat Twist Afro

Beaded flat twist natural hairstyle Happy Saturday everyone! I have to say that God is good! I am blessed to be alive... I have been feel adventurous and wanting to put beads in my hair lol. I know... little girl status lol. Two weeks ago, I bought a pack of black, clear, and white beads from my local beauty supply store. I made diagonal flat twists in the front (bang) area of my hair.  Then I parted two vertical sections above my ear, and flat twisted them. Use a bobby pin to put the beads in your hair. Then, I hooked a small bobby pin to the middle of the twist and pulled it through the beads. Some bead packs come with a hook to help put them in your hair. Next, I took the end of the twists and pinned them to the top of my hair (not too tight). You can also flat twist you hair in an upward direction, instead of pinning them. The fro part of my hair had already been bantu-knotted, so I put on a headband and was good to go :-)

Sunday Hair: Flat Twist Bang With Puff

Happy Sunday everyone! I feel like I haven't been on here in a long time. I've had some trials but God will get the glory! Pray for me everyone :-) Since I washed my hair last week, I have been wearing my hair in a puff with a flat twist bang. I did my twists on dry hair after applying my Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion and Coconut Oil. I parted the bang sections at a slant. Because I parted small sections, I was surprised that my twists puffed up by the next day.

Church Hair: Bantu Knot, Twist Out with Bang

Happy Sunday everyone! On Friday, I couldn't take it any longer, so I washed my hair. It didn't take me as long as usual. It took me about 2 hours. I washed my hair in 4 sections and applied conditioner to each section. I tried finger detangling my hair only. The process went smoothly. Saturday I wore my hair in a twist out, but my afro was not stretched enough to my liking. Last night, I put m hair in 8 sections, two strand twisted, and bantu-knotted them.  This morning I attempted another bang style with a regular plastic headband, and I was pleased :-) I had been thinking about flat ironing my hair, but I was too chicken to go through with it lol. I'm not about to be dealing with heat damage. I've dealt with that before . The Mini- Twist Style Challenge was fun because I was able to really challenge and push myself to work with my hair. I didn't like the last bang style too much, but I like the one in the picture above :-) God is good. Also, October 3rd...

Mini Twists Style Challenge: Twist Out in Headband with Bang (# 7)

Yesterday, I wore my mini twist, twist out (puff) in a headband with a bang. I wasn't too thrilled with the way it looked on me, but I was happy to try something new.  I really like playing around with the bang. Next time, I may just two strand twist it. I can't wait to wash my hair! lol

Mini Twists Style Challenge: Side bang with Headband #5

I liked this style better than the two french braids . This weekend I might take my twists out and do a twist out.

Mini Twists Style Challenge: 2 French Braids with Headband #5

Happy Saturday everyone, Today I styled my mini twists into two big french braids. But, I wasn't thrilled about this style.
