Moving On From Traction Alopecia

The Free Dictionary defines Traction Alopecia as "loss of hair due to from prolonged pulling on the hair, usually associated with certain hairstyles or a habit of twisting the hair". My sister "C" and I have both experienced Traction Alopecia from tight braids , but my sister's condition hasn't improved. We both went natural about 2 years ago. C wore tight micro braids. Two braids snatched out her edges on both sides of her hair. Afterwards, she wore wigs during and after her transition period. She has tried massaging the bald areas, but hasn't had any success in growing her hair back in those areas. In February, my sister surprised me with pictures of her  flat ironed natural hair. I was very happy to see that she had removed the wig in spite of her Traction Alopecia. Last week, she called me and told me she needed me to find a good natural hair style. We decided to do a bun with a bang in the front, to hide her receding hairline. C has been en...

Happy Friday! Thank God that we made it through the week :-) This morning, I french braided my hair half way down my head and then put my hair into a small bun. The french braid is a bit sloppy but I did not mind :-)

Mini Twist Style Challenge!

Happy Monday everyone, Because, I'm getting bored with my mini two strand twists, I want to challenge myself by coming up with different styles for them. My challenge starts today and will continue through Sunday, October 7, 2012. Please join me! If you'd like to be featured on my blog with you mini twists style, just respond to this post saying so. In my first picture, I used two bobby pins on each side to pin back the hair.

Little Girl with Two Strand Twists

Here is a picture of my 2 year old niece's two strand twists. Her mom applied Organic Root Stimulator's Olive Oil Moisturizer and used rubber bands at the base and ends of the twists. It is a relatively quick hair style.

1BlessedNatural Hair Spotlight Trends: Buns

Is it me, or are there hair buns everywhere?  Hair buns have been the style of choice for many years. They have been a favorite for ballerinas. But lately, they have become higher. My sister pointed this out to me about a month ago. Instead of the bun being worn on the top back of the head, it is now being worn to the top front of the head. Last week a picture surfaced on the internet of Beyonce wearing a big high bun that consisted of medium-sized single braids. The hair bun can be a great protective style for naturals because it allows us to hide our ends. It is also versatile and can be worn with a business or casual outfit. I guess we can say that the bun is the new ponytail, and is here to stay :-)

Little Girl Hair Style Inspired By Another...

' My niece's mom decided to give her a style that was inspired by one shown on "Beads, Braids, and Beyond".  My niece loved her hair; she showed it to me proudly before school :-)
