Fine Natural Hair: Single Strand Knots, Mini Twists, and Trimming My Ends

1BlessedNatural- Fine Natural Hair: Single Strand Knots, Mini Twists, and Trimming My Ends Happy Monday, my blessed naturals! If you follow me on Facebook or Instagram , then you might know that I spent Super Bowl Sunday doing mini two-strand twists yesterday. I installed the twists because my ends needed a trim badly. Although I didn't have many split ends, I had a lot of single strand knots (SSKs) and straight ends. Because my strands are fine, curly, and longer, they're starting to tangle a lot more. When my hair sheds, the shed hair tangles around my healthy strands. My hair has always sledded a lot, even when I was a child. If I try to pull the shed hair out of my hair by finger detangling, the hair pulls and snaps my healthy strands, resulting in straight ends. As a result, I have to use a comb for detangling at least one time during the week, other than wash day. The last trimming of my ends was in October 2014 . This time, I didn't have to cut off...

Damaged Hair? Don't Panic.

Happy Tuesday everyone, This week, I realized my hair was damaged and breaking off. I couldn't tell if it was just my ends or the middle of my strands. Don't panic, 1BlessedNatural! LOL. When I looked at my ends, I noticed I had a lot of straight hairs. I remembered the the recent changes in my hair regimen. My straight ends came from my hair being pulled too much, during the washing and detangling process. I have been shampooing my hair every 1-2 weeks to prevent my scalp from being scaly. Because of the increase in the number of times I shampoo my hair, I have been styling and detangling my hair more than usual= too much manipulation. Plus, I've been using a dandruff shampoo , and they can really dry your hair out. Sunday, I washed my hair with my Castile mixture and then, I deep conditioned it. I two strand twisted my hair and put i...

1BlessedNatural Myth Buster #2: I Don't Need To Trim My Ends.

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. It's time to debunk another natural hair myth! Myth #1: Because I'm natural, I don't need to trim my ends.  1BN: Although you are natural, you still need to trim or clip your ends. You may not need to trim your natural hair as frequently as permed hair, but you will still need to do so. Hair (in general) is prone to split, damaged, and/or weathered ends. Because your ends are the oldest part of your hair, they are exposed to the elements the most. Hair manipulation due to styling also adds more strain to your hair, especially your ends. Keeping your hair moisturized and conditioned may lessen the number of times you need to trim your ends. Protective styling may also keep your ends healthy for a longer period of time, but you will still need to trim them eventually. There is still much debate in the natural hair community about when and how much hair you should trim. I suggest trimming your hair as needed. I kn...
