DIY: Decorating Your Natural Hair Accessories with Nail Polish

Happy Wednesday, my blessed naturals, In January, I told you all about some hair accessories that my sister gave me. Today, I wore one of the black barrettes. The only problem I had was that they blended in with the color of my hair.. So, I decided to add a little color to the barrettes by applying nail polish. It's a simple, cute, and quick fix. Items Needed 1. Your preferred hair accessory: clip or barrette 2. Your favorite color of nail polish 3. paper towel 4. disposable face mask (optional)- I like to use a face mask whenever I use nail polish to prevent breathing the fumes. 1. Pick your favorite color and began applying the nail polish to the surface of your accessory.   2. When you have applied the desired amount of nail polish to your barrette, let it dry. You also have the option of applying another coat of polish to the surface when the first layer dries. You can use a fan or blow dryer (depending on the material of your ac...

Jada Pinkett Smith Rocks Willow-like Hairstyle

Jada Pinkett Smith with husband, Will and step-son, Trey (photo courtesy of Facebook- Jada Pinkett Smith 's Official Page) This week, actress and singer Jada Pinkett-Smith stepped out rocking a Mohawk style. The sides of the  42-year-old singer's head were shaved and bleached. The hair in the middle of the style icon's head was long and colored with brownish blond highlights. Smith's hairstyle is reminiscent of her daughter, Willow's hair a few years back when she rocked a similar style. After receiving backlash about letting Willow cut her hair, Smith released a statement saying that she felt like little girls should be allowed to be themselves, even if it went against their parents' wishes. I am still not sure how I feel about Jada Pinkett Smith's style. I do think it is consistent with the image of her Rock band, Wicked Wisdom. I know one thing for sure is that I could not rock the style! I'd probably side-eye myself for wearing it, lol. That...

1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Breast Cancer Awareness Haircut

Ladi Butler's  Breast Cancer Awareness haircut (photo courtesy of Malik Versatility Cooper's Facebook page) You all may know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Men and women are raising awareness and supporting the cause by sporting pink attire. You may even catch members of the National Football League (NFL) running up and down the field with pink helmets, sneakers, and gloves. Unique and fun fashionista, Ladi Butler decided to raise Breast Cancer awareness in her own way by sporting a pink ribbon haircut. The haircut is bold, fun, and very meaningful.  When I asked Butler what motivated her to get the cut, she said that she wanted the haircut to raise the awareness about Breast Cancer. The young lady felt that many African American women, like herself were not educated about Breast Cancer. They don't know how it develops, or is treated. Butler said that although she stepped outside of her comfort zone a bit with the Breast Cancer haircut, she is happy...

Moving On From Traction Alopecia: Part 4

My sister C, liked my medium two-strand twist, pin curl out so much, that she asked me to do her hair the same way:-) It took me about 3 hours to finger part and complete twists which where a little smaller than mine. I used a spritz water bottle, Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, and Coconut Oil on her hair. When I was twisting her hair, C told me she wanted me to make a bang section in the front to hide her forehead a bit. Although her hair in the front is very long, I knew the pin curls would make it shrink up a bit. So, when I made the twists, I twisted them towards the front for her bang. Afterwards, I created 4 pin curls in her hair. She had 3 in the back and 1 in the front bang area. She kept her pin curls in for 1 night. In the morning, her hair was very full, bouncy, and soft We decided on the bun with bang hairstyle. It's good because it hides her Traction Alopecia spots on one side, as well as the front of her head. You can see from the pictures that...

Business Casual and Casual Clothes with Beaded Hairstyle

Two-Strand Twists with Beads Adult Hairstyle

Hey everyone, In November, I did an afro style with beads. I've been wanting to do twists with beads, but I did not have patience until I saw MahoganyKnots' video " Beady Bead ". I jumped into the time machine and became a little girl again lol. Hair Preparation  I washed and deep conditioned my hair. Then, I applied Giovanni's Leave-In Conditioner , Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie , and Coconut Oil to my hair. After applying the products, I banded and two-strand twisted my hair.   Installing the Beads I purchased 4 packs of black, white, and clear beads . I also brought snag-proof elastic bands . Snag-proof elastic bands have a shiny coating as opposed to regular rubber bands that are dry. I purchased them from Dealz for $1.00 (500-pack). I used a bobby pin and the bead wan to install the beads. *WARNING*- Please check the beads for snags because they may break your hair. All edges should be smooth. It will save you the time and...

Today's Hairstyle

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone had a great day. If you are having a hard time, please know that Jesus is the answer.  "Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man comes unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6 I was blessed by this video called "Maintain Your Joy" by HolyGhostCarrier on YouTube. I hope you are too. I have to clear the smudges off of my camera! My headband is the Goody brand. It came in a multi-pack from the grocery store. Tomorrow will make 22 months natural. I'm getting closer to the 2 year mark!

Sunday Hair: Flat Twist Bang With Puff

Happy Sunday everyone! I feel like I haven't been on here in a long time. I've had some trials but God will get the glory! Pray for me everyone :-) Since I washed my hair last week, I have been wearing my hair in a puff with a flat twist bang. I did my twists on dry hair after applying my Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion and Coconut Oil. I parted the bang sections at a slant. Because I parted small sections, I was surprised that my twists puffed up by the next day.
