Thank God! Today, I want to show you all another photo I saw on Flickr which features a little African girl with puffy braids. The photo was said to be taken around 1943 and I absolutely love it. In the photo, the little girl's hair appears to be braided softly, and then banded on the ends.  The photo reminds me a lot of my grandmother. When I was a child, my grandmother used to press (hot comb) my natural hair. Because my strands were fine, my braids and twists would appear to be thin when my hair was straightened. I remember my grandmother wondering how other parents got their child's hair to puff up into thick twists and braids like the little girl's hair in the photo above. Quvenzhané Wallis (Photo courtesy of Facebook: Quvenzhané Wallis's page) Here is a cute (bun) photo of  Quvenzhané Wallis, who plays "Hush p uppy" in the Academy Award nominated movie "Beasts of the Southern Wild" .  Wallis is also the youngest person to ever b e nominated for an Academy Award. Her parents must be proud :-) The movie is available on dvd and, it is also heading back to theaters in some areas. It is a fantastic movie!    I had just left work when I decided to go see "Beasts of the Southern Wild". I saw the trailer, but I was not ready for the fantastic adventure that it would take me on. The clock read 5:08 and the movie was starting at 5:10 pm. I was excited. So, I used my two minutes to get my ticket and snacks, and headed right to my seat. Beasts of the Southern Wild" is set in a place called the BathTub that is separated from everyone else. The main character "Hushpuppy"( Quvenzhané Wallis) tells the story of how she sees the world through her imagination. The movie is reminiscent of the event of Hurricane Katrina. But , it takes you on an enchanted adventure that will have you on the edge of your seat. It is a must-see and I'm glad that I got the chance to go see it!
