1BN Kids: Big Sister Natural's Flat Ironed Hair and Length Check

1BlessedNatural: 1BN Kids: Big Sister Natural's Flat Ironed Hair and Length Check Hey my blessed naturals, This past Sunday, Big Sister Natural got her hair washed, straightened, and length checked! After washing and conditioning her hair, we applied TREsemme heat protectant and Ultra Creme Satin-Press to it while it was damp. Her hair was then braided into medium size braids and allowed to dry maybe 90% of the way. Afterwards, BSN's mom blow dried and flat ironed it. Here are the before and after pics: 1BlessedNatural: BSN's hair after washing it earlier this month. She was rocking a frohawk and bang 1BlessedNatural: After BSN's mom blow dried her hair, she put it in big sections, and began flat ironing at the back. She straightened small sections at a time. 1BlessedNatural: All done! 1BlessedNatural: BSN's hair is mid-back length. She does have some split ends that her mother plans to trim off. Don't forget to ...

1BN Kids: Braided Bun and Bohemian Styles

1BlessedNatural- Natural Hair Kids: Braided Bun and Bohemian Styles Happy Saturday, my blessed naturals! This week, my nieces' mom did the girls' hair. Big Sister Natural's hair was straightened and styled into a Bohemian braid style. She wore two cornrows in the front of her hair. Each cornrow came down along her sides and were connected into one braid above her ears, to the back of her head. The rest of her hair was left to hang loose in the back. Her mom lets her put her hair in a bun or ponytail. Little Sister Natural's hair was put into a braided bun. Prep for Big Sister and Little Sister Natural's Hairstyling Both of the girls' hair were.... 1. washed 2. sectioned- Big Sis had 12 sections 3. Each section was braided and left to dry 4. 1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Healthy Hair Stylist, Allison White

Happy Good Friday, my blessed naturals! Earlier this week, I took a trip to Best Buy in Madison, Mississippi because I needed to buy a new laptop. There, I met Healthy Hair Stylist, Allison White. When Ms. White asked me what was the purpose of me buying a new laptop, I told her I was a natural hair blogger. She stood quietly with a smile on her face while I explained my site. After pulling up my blog on a demo laptop, she told me she had been a Healthy Hair Stylist for several years.  Also, she had been natural for 8 years. I know that was no coincidence (smile).  Ms. White's hair was straight, shiny, thick, and past her shoulders. The stylist explained that she had straightened her hair all her life. She went natural because she figured why do damage twice to her hair. This included perming and applying heat. White figured if she could get the same results by flat ironing her natural hair, then a perm was not needed.  In addition, the stylist reco...

1BlessedNatural Spotlight: C's Flat Iron and Protective Styling Experience on Natural Hair

My sister C and I have both been natural for almost two years. I transitioned for 4 months and then did the Big Chop. But, she transitioned slowly with the help of wigs. C clipped her hair gradually until she was completely natural. Although her hair was long, she was not happy with it being thin. So, she wore wigs. Two weeks ago, she sent me pics of her hair (without the wig) and I was too excited lol. Since I experienced heat damage after flat ironing, she told me the way in which she prepared her hair for flat ironing.   The first thing she did was apply the Repair Conditioner by Doo Gro to her hair and put a plastic cap on. She kept the product in her hair for 2 hours. Then she applied the Cholesterol Plus Conditioner by LeKair and slept with it in her hair overnight. This was definitely something I should have done before flat ironing. In the morning, C washed the products out of her hair and blow dried it. Then she oiled her scalp with the Do Grow Hair R...

My Braid Out on Flat Ironed Hair

This is the result of my braid-out. My hair didn't keep the bend. It was a bit stiff.. This afternoon I cut about 2 1/2-3 inches of my hair off. Heat damage is no joke. My hair and heat doesn't mix lol... lesson learned.I re-washed my hair and used Organic Root Stimulator's Hair Mayonnaise as my deep conditioner and two-strand twist/pin curled my hair. I might wear a twist out tomorrow. Starting over, or almost all over stinks but I'd rather my hair be short and healthy than long and unhealthy. Also, when I was washing my hair it took awhile to get the heat protectant off of my strands. I had to apply shampoo about 4 times before I could get a good lather and hair to revert back to the curls.

First Time Flat Iron Learning Experience

Happy Monday everyone! I hope all is well. This weekend I finally decided to flat iron my hair. I do not plan on flat ironing my hair again. Here's how it went down lol : I used these Conair clips (from the dollar store) to keep  my hair in 4 sections, after washing, deep conditioning, and detangling my hair.   Then, I parted small sections (within the 4 sections) and used a small tooth comb and did a cool blow out using the Tension Method. I applied  the Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Heat Protection Serum to each small section before blow drying. The Tension Method is when you blow dry your hair while keeping it very taut to limit the amount of heat on your hair. Afterwards, I twisted the section. I used the HerStyler Classic Forever ceramic flat iron. I paid $100.00 for it at a mall kiosk, right before going natural smh. The setting on the flat iron only include a range from 180 degrees F-460 degrees F. So, it's difficult to really to be able to ...

1BlessedNatural Experience: Heat Training My Natural Hair with Hot Comb

8th grade picture of natural hair after being hot combed January 8, 2013-  USE HEAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. AFTER EXPERIENCING HEAT DAMAGE AGAIN, I WOULD NOT SUGGEST TRYING TO "HEAT TRAIN" YOUR NATURAL HAIR.  Happy Saturday everyone! I have been wanting to do a post on heat training natural hair for a while now. I used the hot comb from age 10-17. When I was 10 years old, a perm caused all of my hair to fall out. I remember transitioning at that time. My grandmother pulled on the little bit of permed ends that still existed on my hair to show that I did not have a lot of permed hair left. After a year, most of my permed hair had broken off. When I went to the 7th grade, my grandmother (who had been straightening my hair using the hot comb) took me to a press and curl salon. They deep conditioned my hair, clipped my ends, and curled my hair (using small barrel curling irons). Shirley Temple was my name lol. My hair felt very healthy at the time. Afterwards, my grandmoth...
