How to Get a Fluffier and Fuller Twist-Out!

1BlessedNatural: Bantu-knot out done on dry hair Happy Thursday, my blessed naturals! If you are looking for a fluffier and fuller twist-out, you may want to try twisting on dry hair. My twist and Bantu knot outs come out better when I do them on dry re-twisted or braided dry hair, but I have to apply a water based moisturizer and oil before twisting. If I do not use a moisturizer, my twist-out comes out with less definition because it doesn't set. Wet twist-outs give me a lot of definition, but my hair is less fuller. As a result, I have to fluff it out a lot.  1BlessedNatural: twist-out done on braid-out hair ( style ) Do you like your twist-outs better when they are done on wet hair, dry hair, or both? #naturalhairblog Related Articles: Twist-Out on Braid-Out Hairstyle                             Chunky Flat ...

Porosity and Natural Hair

1BlessedNatural: Porosity and Natural Hair Hey, my blessed naturals, I hope you all are having a great Wednesday. Today, I wanted to discuss hair porosity and natural hair because identifying your hair porosity can help you find the right hair products and regimens for your hair.    1BlessedNatural's Hair Porosity Chart What is hair porosity?  Hair porosity refers to your hair's ability to draw in and reserve moisture. Your hair can be one of the following hair porosity types: low, normal, and high.  Low porosity means that the cuticle layers of your hair shaft are densely packed together. As a result, your hair retains moisture for a longer period of time. However, you will have to use products and/or techniques that lift the hair cuticle to allow moisture to penetrate. For example, after applying my conditioner, I use a heating cap to lift my hair cuticles to allow moisture to get through. Normal porosity hair means that ...

Natural Hair and Too Much Protein

protein build-up hair in bun and linked cornrows style by 1BlessedNatural Happy Monday everyone! This week, I removed my mini twists, washed, and deep protein conditioned my hair. I noticed that my hair was very dull, dry, and breaking. In my last hair article, I talked about my hair breakage . I trimmed my ends thinking this would be the remedy to my problem, but it only helped a bit. Today my hair was very dry, despite me moisturizing it. Also, my hair was very stiff, and my ends would not curl. I've talked about product build-up before, but protein build-up is also very important in which to be aware. Too much protein on your strands can do just the opposite of what you intended to do. After a conversation with Certainly4C , I realized that I had done a lot of protein treatments within the last few months. I knew that protein build-up was possible, but I don't know what I was thinking, lol. Thank God for this blog! I was able to go back and see that I did protein tr...
