Dealing with Moisture Overload

1BlessedNatural: Dealing with Moisture Overload Happy Saturday, my blessed naturals, Last time , I told you that I was experiencing breakage with my natural hair and was going to do a protein treatment. Two protein treatments later lol, I'm here to tell you about my 2nd time with moisture overload . 1BlessedNatural: (After 2nd protein treatment)- The hair in my bang area was the roughest.  What is Going On? When I did my last protective style, my hair was very dry and brittle. It was breaking off in little pieces. My hair also had a mushy and light feeling even after being moisturized. I started thinking about my diet (which wasn't the best) and my water intake. However, it was weird that my hair just changed its texture in a matter of 1 week. As a result, my hair was taken down and washed. Then, I deep conditioned with the ORS Hair Mayonnaise. I usually do this every 2 months. However, the last time I did a protein treatment was around Easter. It was too...

Cornrow and Flat Twist (Tuck and Roll) Updo

1BlessedNatural: Cornrow and Flat Twist (Tuck  and Roll) Updo Happy Saturday, my blessed naturals, Last night, I did my hair in a cornrow and flat twist (tuck and roll) updo. The protective style took me about 3 hours to complete. I noticed some small pieces of hair (aside from normal shedding) which means I'm experiencing some breakage. Nooo, lol! Since I haven't done a protein treatment in a while, I plan to do one in another 1 1/2 weeks when I wash my hair again. I might also do a hot oil treatment. Products Used   Fingertip sprayer bottle with water Curls Creme Brule Coconut Oil  1BlessedNatural: back of cornrow and flat twist (tuck and roll) updo   Style Details The cornrow and flat twist (tuck and roll) updo is similar to the cornrow and pin curl twist updo. I did two weeks ago. The front is flat twisted instead of cornrowed. There are 4 flat twists coming to the front into a swoop bang The back is a curvy diagonal pattern i...

Stretching (Banded) Mini Twists = Less Work?

1BlessedNatural: Stretching (Banded) Mini Twists = Less Work? Happy Friday, my blessed naturals! In the last article, I told you I was going to do an ACV rinse and wash my min twists. I love doing the rinses with my natural hair in twists because it makes it easy for me to spray the ACV/tea tree oil mixture on my scalp without needing to part my hair. After I was done washing and conditioning, I applied Aunt Jackie's "Knot On My Watch" detangler and Curls Creme Brule. After sealing in the moisture with coconut oil, my twists were banded to stretch them and allowed to air-dry.  Cutting Down on the Work and Time My plan was to stretch my twists so that my hair would still be stretched when I removed them a few days later. This process made less work for me. Last night when I removed my twists, I didn't have to worry about washing my hair. I just removed the twists and finger detangled as I went along. You may want to try this method to save time. The o...

They look much older than that time period though because I made them a bit bigger than normal. Last weekend, I put on a hot pink beanie and was out! I left some twists out in my bang area. Tonight, I plan to do an ACV rinse , wash, and deep condition. 1BlessedNatural:That patch of hair near my edges was a twist turned finger coil lol. I don't know. 1BlessedNatural: Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion vs. Curls Creme Brule on Mini Twists Happy Wednesday, my blessed naturals! This weekend, I had a chance to try the Curls Creme Brule on my natural hair while doing mini twists. Although, I've used the product before, I've never used it for my twists. Now, you all may know how much I love the Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion and the Curls Creme Brule as moisturizers. That is why I decided to give you an idea of how they both did on my twists. This way, you can chose the best one for yours. Hair Preparation If you checked out my Instagram , then you know, I washed, deep conditioned, detangled, and banded my hair last Friday. 1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Faux Locs

1BlessedNatural Spotlight: Faux Locs- (photo cred: Instagram and Facebook M Z T )  Earlier this year, we saw everyone and their mama rocking crochet braids . Now, the new natural hair inspired trend is faux locs or temporary dreads protective style. Faux locs have been around since the popularity of locs in the 1970s . Back in February, K.C. Undercover actress Zendaya stepped out on the Oscars red carpet with the Lisa Bonet inspired hairstyle. In the '90s, Bonet wore her natural hair in medium size locs with the top section pulled back into a ponytail, and she still wears her locs today. Since Coleman wore her faux locs, other celebrities like Meagan Good and Tasha Smith have been rocking theirs too.                                              ...
