One of the characters "Michonne" is played by Danai Gurira who is no stranger to television. She has also performed in the popular television show Law & Order . Her resume includes television, film, and theater. Gurira has also graduated with a MFA from NYU. When I first saw Gurira, she reminded me of Lauryn Hill. On the show, The Walking Dead Gurira rocks large locs. In real life, she rocks a short beautiful natural cut. I will be taking these twists out between today and tomorrow. Happy Sunday everyone! I hope that you all are enjoying your evening. God has been pressing on my heart to talk about the topic of letting Him be God in our lives. We may go through trials and tribulations with no solution in sight. Sometimes, we may feel like we need to figure things out; we need to solve our own problems. That is not what God wants for us. He wants us to come to Him with our issues... The size of the problem is no match for the Almighty! Philippians 4:6-7 6  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. I have been writing poetry for a long time. I wanted to share the poem below...I pray that it blesses someone :-)  The Lord's Love If you listen, you will hear the joy in people's hearts. If the air is quiet and people are still, You will feel the warmth. Though burdens exist and bodies bruised, If you listen you will hear the joy in people's hearts A quiet tune escaping from the core of their souls, Rising up from their throats whispering, "Jesus loves me." Even though, I've only had my mini twists in for a week, I decided to wash them. My intention was to do a mini-twist rod set, but I figured I'd show the wash 'n' go method for this blog. I used my Castile Soap mixture to cleanse my hair. I added about 1/4 cup of Coconut Oil to the mixture (by accident lol), but it worked.   First, I  banded my hair in about 7 sections and prepooed using Castor Oil. Afterwards I rinsed my hair and applied the Castile Soap mixture though my parts and massaged my scalp. Then, I deep conditioned my hair (using my conditioning cap). After washing the conditioner out, I applied a leave in conditioner and Castor Oil to each section and ran my fingers through the twists and let the hair hang lose. I usually apply a moisturizer on top of the leave in conditioner, but I forgot that part this time lol (oops!).  I really liked the shrinkage!

I have been noticing the increase in the amount of pomades on the natural hair market. I was wondering a possible reason why this could be happening, when many pomades (especially commercial ones) contain petroleum jelly. As a natural, I already know that petroleum (or petrolatum) jelly is not my friend because it can clog the pores of my scalp. But, not all pomades contain this ingredient.They may also contain wax. The idea of not using pomades on my scalp is far from the one instilled in me and most African Americans as a kid to "grease my scalp". The good thing is that there are other possible uses for pomades that contain petroleum jelly, and I will discuss it a little later. Dictionary.com defines the word "pomade" as being "a scented ointment, especially one used for the scalp or dressing the hair." The most important word is "dressing". Happy Friday everyone, Today's Bible verse for is Psalms 138:8 which reads,"The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy, O Lord , endureth for ever: forsake not the works of thine own hands." This verse reminds us that no problem or concern is too big for God. He will take care of us; we our his children. In hair related news, I've recently started washing my cloth headbands. Usually, I would wear them until they were too oily and then abandon them. But, I started tossing them into the washer machine. Not only does it save money, but some of the headbands (non elastic) regain their shape when thrown in the washer/and or dryer.  You can keep your favorite headbands longer than normal :-) Also, you can hand wash your headbands. If you have sensitive skin, then you may want to use a mild detergent to wash your headbands.
