Poetic Justice inspired braids in a triple twisted bun Hey, my blessed naturals! If you are on the east coast, then you may have heard about the rain forecast for the 4th of July (sad face). Hopefully, it won't be a complete washout. In hair related news, I've been wearing my Poetic Justic e , Janet Jackson inspired braids in a  twisted bun style, just like the one I wore with my smaller single braids . I used a black satin scrunchie to put them in a ponytail before doing the bun. The scrunchie was showing, and yes I left my bun like that lol. I sleep with a satin scarf tied around the base of my hair to keep it neat. I spray the African Royale spray on my hands and pat it onto my braids. This way, I can moisturize my braids and still keep them neat. This weekend, I will probably take my braids down and spray them well.  What hairstyle are you rocking for the holiday weekend? Poetic Justice inspired braids Happy Tuesday, my blessed naturals! This weekend, I removed my first set of braids, then I washed, deep conditioned, moisturized, and sealed my hair. Afterwards, I installed a set of large, box braids extensions inspired by Janet Jackson's look in the movie Poetic Justice . The style was completed in about 8 hours. Because the braids were large, I could have completed them sooner, but I took breaks in between. I used 5 1/2 packs of the Urban Beauty Kanekalon hair.  The one thing I will do differently next time is to make the parts a tad bit smaller I grabbed too much of my hair for some of the braids, so you can see my hair fuzzing up through the braids. In all, I'm happy with the installation. I plan to keep the braids in for 2-4 more weeks, depending on the life of the style. Thank God for protective styling! Single braid bun Happy Monday, my blessed naturals! Since my hair has been braided, I've gotten a lot of questions and comments about it. The one question that surprised me the most was whether the extensions were my hair. Every time someone asked me that question, I said (to myself) that I thought it was obvious I had extensions in my hair. It wasn't until my niece asked me the same question that I remembered natural hair and shrinkage. Before the braids, I'd worn my hair in an Afro and puff styles, and the truth is the extensions could've been my own hair. Last year, my niece's waist-length hair was braided into single braids. Five of the braids in the back of her hair were created using extensions because her own hair was shorter in that area than the rest of her strands. All of her braids looked like extensions. Singer and style icon, Solange Knowles posted a picture on her Instagram of her rocking a hot pink suit, soft wavy hair, white strap shoes, and a light green clutch. The look was for the Gucci Cosmetics launch earlier this month. Knowles' hair was a little longer than shoulder length and parted down the middle. Her hairstyle is reminiscent of singer, Diana Ross' who is also known to wear wigs and weaves. Lately, Knowles has been wearing different types of wavy wigs, but I like the one above most. I think her unique sense of style has made her stand out in the entertainment industry and establish her own brand. Hey, my blessed naturals! It's been 1 week since I did my single braids for the first time . I've been enjoying the fact that I don't have to do my hair. Yay for protective styling lol! I keep my hair in a twisted bun style, and I use the African Royale Sheen Spray on my hair and scalp. I also use the Hollywood Beauty Tea Tree Oil on my scalp to combat the itching. I spray my hair every morning, but I've only used the oil once. I plan to cleanse my scalp next week. Yesterday, I took my hair down spritzed, oiled, and put it back up into a bun. Since my hair is in a protective style, I've had more time to work on adding more cards to the Ruthie's Greetings Etsy shop. Today, I added "The Blessed Birthday Girl" card and gift tags (shown below). The young lady on the front is rocking a bun just like me, lol.
