Jekalyn Carr Gospel singer Jekalyn Carr recently released her new song and video "Changing Your Story." The video was recorded last year at the "Praise in the Park" event by Praise 102.5 radio station in Atlanta. On June 5th, Carr released the "Changing Your Story" and "Power of Love" songs on digital platforms on June 5th. Grace Byers (photo cred: Instagram) Today, author and Empire actress Grace Byers broke down her struggles on Instagram of being a biracial woman, including feeling the need to claim her white or Black side more. Byers, who is Caymanian and American said she made herself small to not make other people feel uncomfortable. She began her post saying, "I am a Biracial woman; a proud Afro-Caribbean Woman." Byers continued, "While the world accosted me to interpret my mixed heritage for the purpose of comfort-labeling, I acquiesced. Feeling required to constantly defend my Blackness, while clearly acknowledging that the world did not receive me as white, was exhausting." Byers also said that she felt displaced. Actress China McClain is educating people on social media about the Black experience. McClain, who is 21 years old said she and her sisters (Lauryn and Sierra) have dealt with being told by white people how they should act when playing Black characters. McClain said, "I can't tell you how many conversations, sometimes arguments. It's escalated to that... Back and forth with white people telling me what would be most authentic coming out of my Black character's mouth."
