My Favorite Protein Deep Conditioner: Hair Mayonnaise by Organic Root Stimulator

My Hair loves the Hair Mayonnaise by Organic Root Stimulator! I usually apply it to my hair using the shingle method to ensure that the product is spread throughout my hair. Then I put on a plastic cap and sit under a heating cap for about 15 minutes. My end result is strong, soft, and manageable hair. I use this product once or twice a month. It costs approximately $10.00.

Two Strand Twist Knot TWA Style

This style was inspired by one of Lauryn Hill's natural hair styles where she has twists twisted all over her hair. I am not quite sure how she did it, but the above picture is my attempt. I was going to twist my whole head, but I decided to just do the front. I may attempt to twist my whole hair when it get longer. So, here is how I achieved this look... I created 3 rows of two strand twists at the front of my hair, 2 rows on the sides I  formed the designs with my two strand twists by gathering them into three sections... 1 on the top, and 1 section on each side of my head. I grabbed the twists and connected them. Then I twirled them around like a bantu knot and secured them with hair pins. I planned on doing a twist out in the back, but ran out of time. I may do it next time.

Natural Hair Product Review: Mega Care Grape Seed Oil

Where: local beauty supply store   Price: $.99-$1.99   Ingredients: Grape Seed Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Olive Oil, Sunflower Oil, Castor Oil, Wheat Germ Oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Fragrance The Mega Care Oils are usually the impulse items located near the cash register at my local beauty supply store. I purchased the Mega Care Grape Seed Oil to keep in my purse when I am on the go. The ingredients include more than just Grape Seed Oil. But, it is still a good product. I like the ingredients listed because it include many of the oils that have the reputation for being good for the hair. Yesterday, I sprayed my hair with water and applied a small amount to my finger coils. The Grape Seed Oil made my hair feel moisturized and smooth. It gave my hair a nice shiny appearance, without the greasy feel. I will try the product again after I wash my hair. I will let you know my results. Fragrance: pleasant "grape" scent Grade: A

1 Week Old Finger Coils

My finger coils are now 1 week old. They actually look better at this time, than when they were shorter. After a couple of days, I apply coconut oil to them. Today, I spritz them with water and applied Grape Seed Oil.

Using Blow Dryer on Cool Setting

Hey everyone, Happy Sunday! I hope that you are having a good evening :-) I thank the Lord for waking me up, traveling mercies, and revealing the more important things in my life. On to my hair... I have this habit of washing my hair (on wash day) close to the time that it is time to go to sleep.  Because my hair is usually damp, I place a towel over my pillow to absorb the water. After reading articles about using the cool setting on the blow dryer, I decided to purchase a Conair blowdryer with a "cool" setting. The article "Blow Drying Reduces Moisture in Hair (even with low heat)"  by The Natural Haven was a deciding factor for me because I was concerned about damaging my hair. After washing, deep conditioning, applying a leave-in conditioner, applying Shea Butter mixed with Olive Oil, and two strand twisting, I blow dry my hair on a cool setting. It doesn't seem to dry my hair out much. If my hair gets a little dry, I apply a leave-in conditioner or Co...

Fall Protective Styling Choice: Finger Coils

Good afternoon my naturals! Today, I finger coiled my hair. They took about 4 1/2 hours to complete, which is a lot less than my normal 6-7 hours lol. When I create the coils, I usually do them by parting the sections with my finger. This time, I parted my hair from ear to ear. Then I parted the sections of my hair in small rows. This technique cut down the time. I also stood in the mirror the whole time instead of sitting on the couch lol. I applied water, leave in conditioner, Shea Butter mixed with Olive Oil, and Eco Styler Gel and twisted the hair between my thumb and index finger. The last time that I've created these was the beginning of August. My hair has grown a lot. I had a bit of difficulty twisting my ends because I have not adjusted to doing finger coils with my current length.I may keep the finger coils in for a week and a half. All Done! Thank God!

Before Going Natural: "Please Comb It"

Hey everyone,  I hope that you had a great day... I have been wanting to post this pic for awhile, but I kept forgetting to do it... The pic was taken back in 2009. I would put sponge rollers in my hair after washing it to give it a somewhat naturally curly look. I would do this when I did not want to relax my hair right away. During this particular week, I had worn my hair curly and decided to go to a Dominican doobie salon to get a perm and doobie. My hair was as kinky as it could possibly be with a perm. I will never forget how the stylist looked at me. She was an angry woman any way, and the sight of my hair made it worst. She handed me a wide tooth comb and told me to comb it out. I was happy because she probably would have combed my hair out. This whole experience was my punishment for letting my hair get "nappy". It's a shame too because Dominican's hair has all different hair textures that range from super kinky to super straight.  But, I had committed a d...

Natural Hair Anxiousness Subsiding

My cap matches my shirt! I didn't do that on purpose lol   Hey everyone, I hope you had a good day! If you didn't, please remember that God is still with you and it will get better :-) On to hair business... I have noticed that I am a little less anxious about playing in my hair. When I started transitioning , I was very anxious for my hair to grow.  I wanted to try new styles and washes.I also felt this way when I did my big chop. Now, I am a little over 7 months natural and I am finally calming down a bit lol. Please do not forget that I said, "bit" lol When I first did my big chop, I washed my hair religiously every week. Now, I wash my hair every week and a half to two weeks. I struggled with co-washing my hair today... My busy schedule adds to this also. Lesson learned this week: I've learned that you do not always have to try so hard for your hair to look good. I had been doing twist outs last week and a few times this week. One night, I was too ...

1 Week OldTwist Out Hair

I have been doing twist outs all week.  I love the level of moisture in my hair by the end of the week lol Those of you with questions about hair type... I don't know my "hair type". I gave up on the "hair typing" a long time ago. I have many different textures of hair on my head. I am slowly but surely learning how to care for my hair.

My Praise Break

I have to say that the Lord has been good to me! I could be having the worst day, but He always gives me a reason to smile at the end of the day.  It is like the song says, "He keeps on doing great things for me." I prayed for something today, and the Lord worked it out according to His plan :-) If God has blessed you in any way, please share! "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."-John 14:1

My Fall Natural Hair Regimen

It seems like we just put away our sweaters and heavy coats. But, the cooler weather is back.  This also means a change in many of our hair regimens. I have been mainly doing twist outs... After washing and deep conditioning my hair I use the Organics Olive Oil  Leave In Conditioner by Africa's Best, and then my Shea Butter and Olive Oil mix to seal in the moisture. In the morning, I apply a small amount of Coconut Oil to my hands as I unravel the twists. I have days were I don't manipulate my hair much. I may cornrow the front of my hair, and apply a moisturizer to it in the morning and at night.  What is your fall/winter natural hair regimen?
