Roller Set With NO HEAT: Success

No heat roller set...air dried,  8 hours after removing rollers Hey everyone! If you have been reading my last posts, then you know that I have been fighting the urge to use direct heat on my hair. The first time I tried a roller set without heat, my hair came out ok. But, the humidity made my hair look like cotton balls lol. Plus, my curls did not come out as smooth as I would have liked them. This time was a different story. Thank God because I would have been looking a mess lol. The website called The Long Healthy Hair Advisor helped me tremendously!   Before You Start, Do a Test Before I washed my hair, I  performed a test on a small section of hair at the nape of my neck. I tried rolling the turquoise magnetic rollers using setting lotion and water. Then I tried the purple rollers. I allowed the section to dry overnight. My results were good. Items Needed  Rat tail comb Leave-in conditioner (I used Carol's Daughter's Hair Milk Le...

Kelis Shares Her Secrets and Tutorial for Great Curls in App!

1BlessedNatural: Kelis Shares Her Secrets and Tutorial for Great Curls in App! (photo cred: Instagram/Kelis) Kelis is spilling her curly natural hair secrets, and she's doing it in her new app! Yesterday, the "Milkshake" singer gave us a tease of how she styles her no-heat roller set on Instagram. Even though you have to visit the app to see the actual roller set tutorial, Kelis shared that she sleeps with a satin pillow case. She also recommended sleeping with your curls up in a pineapple to preserve them. If you're newly natural and wondering what pineapples are, I will help you out!  Pineapples are when you gather your hair at the top of your head like a ponytail or puff. Kelis has never been afraid to color her hair and experiment with all different types of styles. Back in 2016, the singer shared one of her tips to keep her hair healthy. On Instagram, she said, "For those of us who color, strip and down right rely on our hair to do the impo...

Natural Hair Update: Curls, Twists, and Length

Happy Tuesday everyone! In my last hair article, " Natural Hair Fatigue " I told you all I was going to do another roller set . I usually use the Foam Wrap Lotion.,water, and Coconut Oil by Motions to set my curls. This time, I tried the Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion , water, and Coconut Oil. The curls that dried thoroughly were fine, but the others dropped. If you decide to use the Cantu Creamy Hair Lotion for a roller set, be sure to allow extra time for your hair to dry. It takes a little longer than when you use the Foam Wrap Lotion. I ended up finger combing all the curls out and doing a puff style. I had little tiny curly throughout my hair from the "roller set gone wrong" lol.  small coils that remained in my hair after the roller set This weekend, I installed mini twists in my hair. I banded my hair to stretch it. It's been a few months since I've done it. This time, my hair looked like it grew another inch and a half. Because my hair w...

Day 2: Roller Set with NO Heat (Continued)

My roller set hair after combing it out Happy Thursday! Last night, I attempted to comb my hair after applying Coconut Oil. Bad idea! My hair was still a bit crunchy from the setting lotion. Also, my curls were very tight, so it placed stress on my ends. I wrapped my hair, but I decided to take it out. Next time, I will try combing and wrapping my hair when I use the big rollers.

Roller Set Without Any Heat

Happy Wednesday everyone, The last time that I went natural, I relied heavily on heat for my styles. This time I've decided to not to use much heat. Last night, I washed, deep conditioned my hair, applied Green Tea & Shea Butter Moisturizer by Softsheen Carson, and Coconut Oil. I applied Motions Wrap Lotion to each small section and rolled my hair in rollers. ( I think I will try the flexi rods next time) over night. My total drying time was about 7 hours. In the morning, I unrolled my hair and separated my curls. I was very happy with my results... When I first started rolling my hair, I didn't use the spray bottle or wrap lotion a lot. I think that section came out more wavy. So, next time, I will use both a little bit more. But, my hair frizzed up thanks to the humidity. Nooooooo!!! By the end of the day, my hair ended up looking more like cotton balls than curls, lol. I put two decorative pins in the front. Tomorrow, I may just use the side combs or do a...

Day 3: NO Heat Rollerset Comb Out After Pin Curls

Roller set hair after combing it out and pin curls The picture above is the result of the pin curls that I installed last night. Although I am happy with the appearance of my hair, I do not like the crunchiness from the setting lotion. I will be co-washing my hair tonight. removing the pin curls Have you experienced crunchiness after doing a roller set?

Day 2: Roller Set with No Heat Style

Hey everyone! Last night I put my hair in pin curls before I went to sleep. This morning, I took them out and applied Coconut Oil to my hair. I grabbed two sections in the back, twisted them upward and pinned them. My curls have softened up. Tonight, I might try to comb out my curls a little and wrap it or pin curl them again. I'm loving these curls :-)  It's weird because this is the straightest that my hair has been since I have gone natural.

21 Months Natural Hair: Update

Happy Tuesday everyone, Yesterday was my 21 months hairanniversary! The funny thing is that I would probably have forgotten if it wasn't for Naturali-Chik posting hers lol. I haven't been posting much about my hair because I haven't been doing anything new. Yesterday, I washed, deep conditioned, and installed two-strand twisted pin curls. This morning I took them out for a twist out. But, the humidity made my little waves disappear lol. Yesterday, I was looking in my product collection for a shampoo and pulled out the Revitalizing Shampoo by Finesse. The bottle of shampoo is at least 6 years old lol. It was one of those products that you think is not for your hair after you buy it. This time I was wrong :-) It worked just fine. My hair was super dirty. As for the condition of my hair... It is pretty healthy, thank God. Two weeks ago I trimmed my ends while my hair was in mini twists. I only clipped about 1/4-1/2 inch off (which was not a lot).  I clip my ends every...

I've Found a Trimming Method...

next day after trim Happy Good Friday everyone! The Lord is good :-) If you have reay my previous posts, then you know that it was time for me to trim the ends of my hair. I've tried trimming my hair while it was wet. However, I cut off more than I needed.  Hair Banding to Prepare for Trim   This time, I stretched my hair using the banding technique. Then I took each section out of the band (while it was a bit damp) and divided them into smaller sections. I applied the Shea Butter & Green Tea Moisturizer by Softsheen Carson and Coconut Oil to the section, and trimmed a small amount of hair off the ends. Afterwards, I applied a small amount of Coconut Oil to each section and re-banded my hair. Because my ends were not split, I did not need to trim off much. I had a lot of single strand knots (ssk) and tangles that signaled a much needed trim. One Night Later... My hair was so soft that it straightened out like I had blown it out. I also think tha...

Natural Hair Fatigue

Hi my blessed naturals! I hope your day is going well. I need to do my hair, but I really don't feel like it, lol. I've spent the past 3 months focusing on recovering from both protein and moisture overload . Now that my hair is back to normal (thank God), I'm tired lol. It's been in an afro for the past 3 days. I've moisturized and sealed it, but that's it. I have to style it for the week, so I might wash it and do a roller set . I will keep you all posted! Have you experienced natural hair fatigue?
